I'm certainly enjoying the music, but I'm having trouble identifying the people they spotlight in the audience. We've all gotten old, I guess.

I was okay with identifying the entertainers except for the two women who were dressed in outfits made from the same fabric. And maybe were wearing the same wigs. Who were they?

I might check this out since apparently other artists are performing Joni's music.

For me, she was the female Bob Dylan. She gifted us with so many brilliantly beautiful songs, but then had to go and sing them herself.

When others ( hello, Sarah McLachlan ) sing her compositions the result is pure bliss.

"Urge for Going" by Tom Rush is wonderful.

I think that the CIA used to have Joni and Dylan do duet concerts at GITMO to make

people talk!

@PickyPicky3 Thanks again for the heads up on this show. I tuned in late, of course, and enjoyed what I saw - hoping they replay so I can see it all. I loved hearing Joni sing! I also didn't really recognize anyone in the audience - a couple of people looked familiar (just a couple), but can't name them at this point anyway, but I have a cold now and am fuzzy headed. Does anyone know who the gentleman was sitting next to Joni? (he def. looked familiar to me)

@PickyPicky3 Yes, that's who I was wondering about. Thanks for posting the picture. I tried google lens on the picture and lens was no help. at all. I googled the question who was sitting next to joni m? and came up with no info. So........ maybe he isn't someone who is famous - but for some reason he does look familiar to me.

@PickyPicky3Is this the folks you're referring to? If so, the 2 ladies in similar outfits & hair are Lucius, with Brandi Carlisle & Celise. The only one I'm familair with is Bandi Carlisle:

I thought it was kind of cool that Cary Raditz was in the audience, who the song "Carey" is based on.

Could this show set a new record for the most ex-relationships onstage with the guest of honor? Definitely James Taylor, Graham Nash, Larry Klein. Maybe Cary? Probably others we don't know about.

Sorry I missed this! Blue is an all time favorite. The Hissing of Summer Lawns and Court and Spark, and Mingus - she's a genius. Night Ride Home is fantastic. Long live Joni.

One of the BEST concerts I saw was Van Morrison, Joni Mitchell, and Bob Dylan. I was lucky to have scored second row seats. ALL of them were AMAZING - so much talent in one show.

I finally took time to enjoy my recording of this show. It was, in short, one of the most exhilarating experiences I have had in recent years. Absolutely tastefully and brilliantly planned and performed.

The lead pop music critic of The Washington Post, who was present at the concert, wrote in his review that he inexplicably became emotional and felt profoundly, spiritually moved when Joni sang Summertime. Deep down, I am certain that Chris Richards understood why he cried. It is a moving experience to watch someone's life and accomplishments presented in such a dignified and enjoyable way -- especially when that individual is 79, going on 80.

Joni had a near-death experience not too long ago, and here she is being feted for the Gershwin award. How blessed she is to have lived to earn an honor that she richly deserved. Past Gershwin honorees remarked that Joni was long overdue for this prestigious recognition.

When the show closed with "The Circle Game," it felt as though a life of an exceptional person had come full circle. The audience was feeling a lot of sentiment as they sang along with those on stage as they and Joni sang "The Circle Game.". I was very moved.

Taylor Swift (ignore photo to right; it does not illustrate my thought)

There is something about the photo of Joni Mitchell on the cover of her album that suggests Taylor Swift to me. Both have that certain "blonde girl with long hair" look, but, what is more important, both are superbly talented songwriters who capture their era's zeitgeist.

Someone upthread mentioned that Joni Mitchell had been romantically involved with several performers who honored her at the awards ceremony. While reading about Graham Nash, I saw this photo.

Hmm, several loves in succession who are famous in the performing arts. Writing about the pain that followed breakups with these loves.

Once again, Taylor Swift reminds me of Joni.
