What's your take on the new Food Network Star?

Am glad I wasn't a judge, as I think that both Eddie & Jay were neck-in-neck. I commend Dom as he came so far in personal growth from beginning to end. Don't watch much of this channel anymore as most of it is now the reality type shows that I don't care for. Wish they would go back to their original programming which was educating the home cook/foodie on tips & techniques. Thanks for letting me rant & have a good rest-of-your Monday.

I totally agree. I don't watch it much anymore. Used to watch it all the time. Don't like the reality shows and wish they would just go back to good old cooking!

Cut throat kitchen makes me cringe. And it seems to be on often. I also can't tolerate Guy and DDD

I used to hate cut throat kitchen, but it's finally grown on me. It's only on once a week here. I can do without DDD, it's on at least 5 nights a week.

I liked all three! Eddie will be a great addition to the network. I've noticed that many times some of the others who didn't get picked as the " next star"..will still land a job at the network anyway! Hope this holds true with Jay and Dom as well. They both have a lot to offer; each uniquely different styles.

This is the first time I was torn between all three finalists I liked them all Dom's food always looked so good I'm happy in the end he over came is shyness. I thought Jay came out the gate a winner he had a lot of presence from the beginning I knew he would makeup to the final. I'm happy Eddie won he two has what it takes for a winning show not to mention that smile. All three will go a long way and as others have said Jay and Dom will probably end up on the cooking network both are very talented chefs.

Im in total agreement that the food network is a far cry from what it once was which was to show us how to cook, new food ideas I rarely tune in anymore.

I am happy that Eddie won & am looking forward to his show.

Now that Food Network is competition-focused, they started the Cooking Channel to focus on actual cooking. It's on an upper tier on my cable system so I don't get it, but I see the listings & it is good, if you get it.

I didn't like Cutthroat Kitchen at first even though I'm a big fan of Alton Brown (I watch Good Eats on Netflix often), but it caught my attention a couple of months ago & now I love it! They have really hit their stride when it comes to sabotaged, some are just cruel (in a funny way) & some are hilarious. Saw the first episode of Camp Cutthroat & it was so funny! These chefs are really pros to overcome what is thrown their way. I have to admire their abilities. :-)

This was the first year I didn't watch the show. After last years' questionable winner, and just uninteresting content from beginning to end, I took it off my TiVo one pass.

I used to like Chopped, but it has run its course. There is a finite number of disgusting combinations of food to cook. It's all about the drama now and not about actual cooking.

I feel the same way about Worst Cook in America. I liked the first 2 seasons, but now they are adding ringers to make it dramatic. Some of these people are over the top and it stops being even remotely believable.

Cooking Channel is all about cooking now. I don't get this channel with my cable package and it's not worth the cost of the tier for just this one show.

Eventually all Cooking Channel shows show up at various times on Food Network (like Brunch at Bobby's).

I do miss Ellie Krieger though.

This is the first season I've watched it and it seems to me that every contestant is as boring as the next. Mediocre cooks and awful programming ideas. Do I really need to watch one more FN person trot around the country and stuff his face full of food? I don't think so.

I did watch the Food Network Star but I seldom watch the Food Network anymore. I can't stand Guy or DDD. Most of the focus is on very unhealthy food like Pioneer Woman or Trisha Yearwood's show. Even Ina is full of butter and cream. I wish they still had some shows like Elle Krieger on or maybe one focused on clean eating.

I did not care who won because it is just going to be more of the same!

I agree with everything you said! They have gotten totally away from food and teaching anyone anything about nutrition or food prep and cooking. It should be renamed the "Grease and Cheese" network. Bad cheese at that.

I also am sick of Bobby, Giada (and the rest of that story as well), never liked Guy or the farm lady either. The Kitchen has that woman that just screams all the time--that's another horrible show. I'd like to see a talk show with a sensible host and guests who talk about nutrition, food, new trends, easy but interesting (not a gob of cheese, some chicken and carbs) but easy and healthy dishes, and discussions about food products and what they are, the good and the bad, and how to use them.

My ideal host for my new show (ha ha) would be (and I know many of you can't stand the woman) Martha Stewart. I say that because at her tv best, she is informative and can discuss a subject with someone without trying to be cute or getting off topic. I loved her first shows on tv when she wasn't trying to be personable. I learned SO much from them! And goodness knows I need to learn something at my "old dog" age! I want some new tricks!

I am pretty much in harmony with the rest of the posts.....

The winner is good eye candy and seems a competent cook....nothing exciting.

If I never see Guy, Giada, Bobby or, increasingly, Rachael again, that would be fine.

Ina is , by far, my favorite and I do watch The Pioneer Woman because I love the way they live.....the ranch, the lifestyle, what is expected of the children......

I agree about Martha Stewart......she should take over The Kitchen with Jeffery.

I see that the original thread about this season of NFNS is still up. That's where I put my impressions of the finalists, so I'll spare everybody repeating that whole thing.

Sooner - As to 'The Kitchen', is it the screamy Sunny Anderson who makes you hate that show? I simply cannot stomach her AT ALL, ever!

But I do like the show otherwise. I always liked Geoffrey Zakarian and I think Jeff Mauro is sweet and fun. I like Katie Lee. She is so darned cute it's hard to look away but she also is good at cooking and tips. The only host with whom I was unfamiliar was Marcela. But I find her pleasant too.

However, I won't hesitate to fast-forward through a Sunny Anderson segment. I don't do well with screamy and 'me me me me - FEED ME!'. Too much.

GZ has another new show and I contemplated adding that one until I saw that he will be co-hosting with Sunny Anderson.

Just as long as Jay didn't win, I'm happy.

I read today, Eddie was on Gordon Ramsey's Master Chef a few seasons ago and came in 8th. That show deals more with the food than the personality.

I'm so glad to find others who find Sunny Anderson hard to watch! She hurts my ears :-) & I can't watch The Kitchen because of her, I have tried because I enjoy a couple of the other hosts, but she drives me crazy.
