Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut

About two days ago I read that PBS was already airing a special called "Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons: A Life on Stage," featuring Frankie Valli and his current Four Seasons. The show's focus is on Frankie, of course, who has been performing for most of his 88 years. He's 88 years old.

The show was filmed at his live performance at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut.

I set up a recording time and a few minutes ago finished viewing the very pleasant (and for me nostalgic) show. So many hits, so many decades of my life that moved along with his great songs.

The reason I emphasized Frankie's age is that one can experience a bit of antsiness at the beginning because Frankie's movements seem stiff and his face expresionless much of the time. But, come on, the guy is 88! What do I expect, right?

Remember that Frankie told Angelo "Gyp" DeCarlo that he would be touring until he was 90.

However, while he sings "My Eyes Adored You" (my personal favorite for a couple of reasons) and afterward, the show becomes more lively and Frankie becomes more animated, too. That guy is phenomenal. His voice has no imitators, as we all know. The Valli falsetto and voice are one of a kind. He is 88.

I've gotten very nostalgic lately, and I wept through a lot of the numbers. Who weeps at a joyful Frankie Valli concert? I guess me.

@golding76 - Thank you for posting about this special! I love Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons and had many of their records in the '60's. Luckily my PBS station is repeating it tomorrow afternoon, so I have set my DVR and will watch.

I watched this special also. It is amazing that he is still touring at 88. I did like his music. Yes, he was stiff and expressionless at the beginning of the show, but livened up some as the time went on. He found his groove. I'll bet he had quite the interesting life. I missed going to see "Jersey Boys".

I would love to see him perform live, but TV may be my only option.

Speaking of "older" performers, we just saw Jay and the Americans (all original members except the current "Jay") at Ramshead in Annapolis.

Like you, I found myself tearful many times thinking of the places and times that went along with the music. It was a good show.

While I don't think any are Frankie's age, I know they are late 70s at least. Nevertheless, there is still clealy a love of performing and their voices were strong.

Frankie is one of a kind. I never get tired of hearing that music.

I recorded this special but haven't watched it yet. I actually saw Frankie Valli live in concert several times at Mohegan Sun several years ago when I lived in Connecticut. He never dissapoints.

The one thing I miss about Connecticut is the concerts. I saw so many entertainers that I never expected to be able to see in person. Jay Black, Johnny Maestro (before he passed) Harry Connick, Andy Williams, LInda Rhonstat, Jackson Browne, Kenny Vance & the Planotones, Neil Young, Hall and Oates, and the Rightous Brothers just before Bobby Hatfield passed. Carlos Santana, MIke Love's Beach Boys, Brian Wilson's Smile and Pet Sounds concerts, Chicago, Cher and Huey Lewis and the News. These are just a few of the many I was lucky to experience.

They are all treasures, and we will be losing them one by one too soon. We are just lucky that they still have the passion to perform at their age.

Warms the heart the heart to hear tunes we know and can still, sing along to. Who knew they'd still be around to be heard so often now. That's amazing to me.

DH and I watched this show. We loved it. To see Frankie still going at 88 was a treat in itself. He has slowed down considerably but his love for what he does is inspiring. Yes, those songs bring back many memories!

I would definitely watch this and will look to see when it's going to be re-aired. Love the music and really enjoyed a Jersey Boys production, in Chicago, many years ago.

DH and I attend a lot of concerts, mostly southern gospel but sometimes other artists we've listened to and feel nostalgic about. Last week we were at a Happy Together tour date. Susan Cowsill was the youngest person on the tour, barring the backup band members - she's 63. The Cowsills led off and sounded terrific- so much fun! The Vogues and The Association were good too. Carl Giammarese (lead singer for The Buckinghams) and Gary Puckett have very little voice left. Puckett turns 80 soon. Truth be told, we have seen a few old singers who need to be told that it's time to put the mic away, but I imagine that would be hard when it's the only life you've known for 50+ years. Good for Frankie, though, if he can still do it.

I saw Jersey Boys in Atlanta when it was touring. It was great!

All the posters comments got me to thinking: Will the youngsters and young adults of today be going to concerts by the rappers of today ???

Or, will they discover the wonderful love songs that followed their elders through their lives ????

YES--I watched Frankie's show on PBS ! I too sang along to all the songs from my era.

He's phenominal! I was lucky to see Jersey Boys in NYC.

Who weeps at a joyful Frankie Valli concert? That would be me!!! As a fanatic such as myself would say "I'm their/his number one fan!!!"

I was so upset when I saw it was on PBS, changed the channel to it, just in time to see the ending credits rolling. I wanted to weep then, too. I searched and at the time, there were no other future airings. Someone suggested Youbube. I will give that a try.

I've wondered that myself. Not to denegrate any generation's music, but I cannot understand most lyrics of much of what I hear today.

Since I rarely listen, I'm not sure if there will be any memorable tunes.

As for me, I can hear the opening notes of songs from years ago and know the lyrics. Seeing the artists in person adds so much.

My heart still remembers so much that went along with the songs.

@jlkz DH and I were just talking about that as we watched TV last night with a group of country singers from the 50's. Of course it was of an old show when they were young and popular, but we said we wondered if the generation of today will watch their rapprers and whatelse passes for music now when they are in their 70 and 80's and still enjoy looking at them or will they just be passing fancies

On behalf of Gen X, I just watched a Prince concert on PBS. Still know all the words, all the moves, and had all the tears when he sang Purple Rain to close the show.

I'm certain there was much lip-synching going on, and the recordings used could be from any of his last several years of performing.

Obviously, when Frankie chatted with the crowd, he was "live." I also think that most of the singing done from "My Eyes Adored You" on was live. I'm no expert, but his mouth movement and animation spurred these thoughts.

Once again, the man is 88. The very fact that he performs an amazing number of times each year -- can travel, suit up and strut his stuff -- is reason enough for me to honor his stamina.

In July he toured the U.K. and did about eight shows all in all. For someone in his age bracket, this expenditure of energy in traveling and performing, in a short period of time, is impressive.

I'm sure his lady-love, pictured below, helps keep him feeling young.
