First episode last night. Alicia had Bob Mackie as a guest. I found it very interesting and informative. Looking forward to the future episodes this month.

I love the clothing in classic movies. Ladies always looked nice and covered up, imagine that lol. Beautiful dresses.

Thanks for the heads up on this show. I missed last night's episode but will try to watch the other shows. There was so many different fashions in movies, defining decades. Grace Kelly, Doris Day seemed to always look so elegant in their many outfits. I always remember Edith Head being praised when I was young as a designer who stood out. I'm sure the series will be interesting and informative and other names mentioned who were a big part of the fashion scene in movie land.

I rediscovered TCM last night after so many years. I watched "Sabrina" and totally enjoyed it. Someone I know got married in the dress that Audrey Hepburn wore while dancing with David. But with my friends wedding dress, the skirt was able to be seperated from the dress (don't remember the term) so after a while only the dress remained.

Is this the show "Follow the Thread?" I kept seeing it advertised on TCM, but never found a listing for it on the Saturday line-up.
Is it on TCM or on a different channel?

It is not a separate series. It involves discussions prior to the Saturday night at 8 pm (EDT) movie. This Saturday Tootsie and Now, Voyager will be shown as examples of "character transformation through clothing." On the 18th Annie Hall and Woman of the Year will be shown as examples of women in menswear. Hope this helps.

Ahhhh...now I understand! Thank you so much! I shall tape the movies...sounds much like the structure of Noir Alley on TCM, with Eddie Muller doing commentary before and after a selected film.

@MarnieRez3 Yes, similar to what Eddie Muller does except Alicia had a guest. This week it was Bob Mackie. Not sure if he'll be on for all the Saturdays or different guests every week. Time will tell. And Now. Voyager is one of BD's best. Love it.

@proudlyfromNJ Tootsie is one of my all time favorites too. Never get tired of watching it. Love Bill Murray and his deadpan "You s ---t"!!!

For some reason I thought it was going to be a full half hour series. I was disappointed with the little blurb.

I'd love to see a full length documentary on fashion in the movies. I admire everything that Joan Crawford wore, she had a style all her own. Katharine Hepburn, too. Katharine was an individualist with her own style. I love that most of Katharine's stage costumes showed off her easy going and athletic movements.

I agree! TCM is the perfect place for a SERIES on movie fashions...and how about Movie Makeup, with a history of Max Factor and Perc Westmore and the Westmore family?
They have such ample opportunities for original programming!

Some of my favorite "current fashion" films:

Greer and Joan in "When Ladies Meet." Refreshing to see Greer in a non-period costume. Her entrance gown is one of the best ever, befitting the new Queen of MGM.

And Kate in "Holiday" with a very simple black evening dress and some fabulous hats..
