Does Anyone Watch Girls

I have watched this show since season one (I think this is the third season). I liked the first season but not so much anymore. I watch more out of habit than anything else. The critics like it and I think maybe I just don't get it. I find that none of the characters are very likable. I know you'll say "just don't watch it", but it's a habit that's hard to break.

My coworker and I were just talking about this. She's a little older than the ago represented in the series. We are both in agreement with you! And, like you, we both continue to watch.

The 2nd season was HORRIBLE, hoping this one is better. I think Hannah is a little better this season - and Adam seems like a decent boyfriend to her. But, you are correct, they are all still unlikable. I especially dislike that hippie chick that was in rehab.

I'm also not sure why I still watch - I guess because it's trendy - Lena Dunham is "cool" and "hip"? I do kind of like the references and I learn a little - for example, on Sunday, Hannah spoke about the Gawker website (which I had never heard of before), and then the next day or two, I see it in the news. Maybe it's also like a sociological (?) experiment - we are watching these crazy creatures to study how they live.

All I have to say is, the 20 somethings that work where I do are NOTHING like this and I feel bad for them if this is considered the voice of their generation.

I tried, but I came to the conclusion that I just don't relate at all to that age group and cast of characters.

I have HBO off and on, I get it when Boardwalk Empire is on and then some free previews, so I'll watch Girls when it's on. I guess I'm fascinated by how neurotic and nutty they are, ha, ha. Couldn't hang with those characters in real life, they're so emotionally draining! I don't miss it when I don't have HBO though, but I'll watch it if I do. You can't look away! Ha, ha.

I can't believe how self absorbed Hannah is. Someone she knows died and all she cares about is her book. I would care about not being able to get my property back, but have a little compassion for those who loved and mourn the deceased.

I watch GIRLS and generally love it but I find the quality uneven from one episode to the next.

I keep watching for those episodes that are awesome but most of them are not. But even the ones that aren't good have some great stuff like Marnie's video which I'm still laughing about.

I don't like Adam's sister. I wish she wasn't there.

But aI love all the other characters, especially Shoshanna and Jessa. Shoshanna is so layered and interesting and Jessa, I find her selfishness and maniupulativeness really well written. That guy she married, that was great. And her best friend faking her own death just to get away from her for good, I loved that.

So all in all I like the show ver much even when it's not great.

I have been watching it but I don't get it 100% most of the time which is why I keep watching. It's hard for me to believe that the characters are so odd, self centered, selfish, whatever. It is for me probably a generational thing since I am old enough to be the grandmother to most if the characters. It has won high praise from critics but I need to find something else to fill my time.

I agree MOM, I don't get it much of the time. I have read some of the back story on the show. After reading about the show, about the author, etc, it helped me understand it a little better. I think it is a show you can't 'over think'.

What I mean is that I find myself trying to think, "What does this and that mean"? When I read about the episode and it actually doesn't mean a lot!

Ha! I sit and watch it and think, "Why am I watching this? It doesn't make sense that I'm watching it". Stupid, I know.
