@twinsister Finally, the Jack Lord one!

This is really good, one of my favorites! Although we have seen some of the plot devices before, they are very well executed in this epi, which is suspenseful and somewhat Hitchcockian (listen for the "Psycho" music in Act IV). We have seen before a woman romantically involved with Kimble only to use him (the Angie Dickinson epi with Robert Duvall), as well as epis where someone plots a murder (that Dickinson epi and Gloria Grahame in the first Shirley Knight epi) and other epis where someone is willing to commit murder and pin it on Kimble since he's a murderer anyway. But IMO this one is the best, and the hour went by very quickly.

Once again too much is given away in the preview scene but it sure captures your interest! Kimble works as a valet at a country club and is dating its beautiful lounge singer, "Gail." Unbeknownst to Kimble, she has just broken off an affair with a handsome married club member, Alan, who is married to a very rich wheelchair-bound woman. All the acting is excellent, esp Mason's.

There are some funny lines too. When Gail says to Kimble she had one hit record but the song was so good that anyone could have sung it and made it a hit, "Even you", he responds in his very raspy voice, "I doubt that." There are a couple of others I won't mention til our Monday discussion.

The mansion is beautiful. When the young violinist episode was on and he and his violin teacher (Donald Pleasance) were staying in a borrowed mansion, I thought it might have been this same house that was used, but it wasn't ( I mentioned this Jack Lord epi at the time).

This isn't a perfect epi, there are a few dumb things that happen such as the wife not seeking more privacy before making that phone call you see in the preview at the beginning. But nothing is too unbelievable. I hope everyone else enjoys this one too.

Out of curiosity I looked up Jack Lord's biography. I was guessing this episode was before his Hawaii Five-0 show. It was, Fugitive (1967) and Hawaii Five-0 (1968-1980).

Not sure how accurate the information was about Jack Lord. It said his son was killed in an accident at age 13. Later it stated that his son died at the age of 12.

But what I was shocked to read, was this statement - "His estate donated $40 million to the Hawaii Community Foundation."

It looked like much of his work was on TV. And he didn't work the last 18 years of his life, from 1980 to 1998. I am amazed that his estate was able to donate that much money.

@Pearlee - I'm looking forward to this one. It sounds very interesting and I love Jack Lord!

@drizzellla - I had read about Jack Lord's son and also about his estate's donation to the Hawaiian Foundation. He and his wife loved Hawaii and the Hawaiian people. For H 50, he insisted that local Hawaiian actors be hired as much as possible. Apparently the Hawaiian people loved him too, as they erected a statue of him somewhere in Honolulu.

@twinsister and @drizzellla Interesting info about Jack Lord; I didn't know any of that. Perhaps Jack made really good investments with the money he earned while acting.

I'm thinking that these last 3 epis have been so much better than the several preceding them, that these may have different writers, even though they are still drawing from former plots. Don't forget to set your DVR machines! As many times as I've seen this one, I'm still riveted by it.

I wanted to comment on more of the dialogue but not until people had watched the epi.

I liked when Kimble joined Gail at the diner and she was already eating her burger, he said "You couldn't wait?" Good for him! I hate when I meet someone for a meal or even just coffee, and they have already started (and I'm never late!) That diner scene always drives me nuts though. They both say how hungry they are but then leave(due to police eating there) before Kimble even takes a bite. And, as always, he paid for the meal and the quarter for the jukebox!

Wheh Gail is arguing with Alan about their relationship, she says "It's ugly! I can't live like this!" Yet, to her, murder isn't uglier?

When Gail and Kimble leave the almost-empty lounge mid-afternoon, Gail says, "Have you ever seen a place as depressing as this place in the daytime?" Kimble responds "No, I never did." Really? This was a guy who was sentenced to death row and sat through his own murder trial and dealt with sick and probably dying children as a pediatrician, and was in the hospital consoling his wife after their baby was stillborn and she couldn't have more children, and walked in on her murder scene --- but the lounge mid-afternoon was the most depressing place he'd ever seen? I had to laugh at that!

Great episode!! They were all good in their roles, but Gail was something else!! It was a bit surprising to see Kimble be so involved with a woman, since usually he is more reserved and non-comittal.

@Pearlee - that Psycho music - LOL!! Very nice house.

I would definitely watch again.

@Pearlee - Good point about the diner scene. I thought the same thing, that Kimble didn't take one bite, but left as soon as he saw police. Understandable, but so obvious.

Very true about how Kimble could think that about the club in the daytime.

Yes, Marlyn's acting was superb, i agree. If looks could kill! She was maybe the worst schemer in the entire series --pure evil-- yet had such an angelic face!

This epi was much like the Angie D one where she pretended to be romantically involved with Kimble but had a boyfriend on the side plotting with her to kill Robert Duvall.

Oh @Pearlee - I didn't want to comment. Because I would have to admit that I fell asleep twice during the episode. I did not record the episode because I never seem to watch shows after I record them. There are so many shows that are recorded (some show about the Beatles and other shows I have forgotten about) and have not watched.

I generally have no trouble staying up at that hour. I stayed up and watched The Jack Benny Show the night before at 3:00AM because Ginger Rogers was the guest.

My son was out most of the day Sunday and he recorded the Olympics. It was gold metal games for curling. So I figured it would be no problem to stay up and watch The Fugitive when it came on.

Well I was wrong. From now on I am going to record it as backup, in case I fall asleep. But I still missed a goodie.

I really don't have much to say except I really liked this episode. I didn't know Hawaii 5-0 was on that long or how much Jack Ging felt about the Hawaiian people or how much of his estate he donated to Hawaii except to say that every actor I have read about loved Hawaii and the people. So it must be a special place.

As for the episode itself, this was one that looked pretty modern, with the exception of the wardrobe Kimble wore and the landline phone. By that I mean he wore a blue suit which kind of stood out, not like the beige outfits he usually wore. It could also be the color aspect as blue photographed better than beige. The remark about waiting to eat struck me funny. Sense of humor injected by the writers.

Do think that since DJ had already quit the show and this was to be the last season, the producers wanted to go out with a bang hence better writing and the storylines were better. Remember when Kimble muttered that he really liked it here. Gave me the impression that he would like to stay and take his chances.

Marlyn was a good actress but she never really transitioned to movies. I've seen her mostly on TV and always enjoyed her. She was truly a working actress and somehow carved out a career for herself.

Unfortunately,, I didn't DVR this episode, but would watch it again

A little trivia - Patricia Smith who played the wife appeared on either the first or second episode of Hawaii Five O as an undercover police woman working for Jack Lord. It was a good episode.

@Pearlee - I remember the early H50 episodes the way you remember the Fuge episodes!

@drizzellla So sorry I got you to "confess." It's perfectly understandable to fall asleep during a show on at 2 a.m. Before i bought my complete set of the series, I did that often. I'm just sorry you missed a good epi.

@chloe4578 You made a great point about the show looking more modern. I thought that same thing as a Chevy car drove by, that our neighbors used to own too. The show isn't looking like ancient history as the earlier shows did.

@twinsister Patricia Smith was also in 2 earlier Fuges. In Coralee, the Season 3 end show with Antoinette Bower as the waitress although I don't remember her in that one, and in the one where Lois Nettleton is the town ****** accused of murdering her married lover. Smith played the married lover's wife in that one (much frumpier looking than Nettleton).
