Cinderella On Amazon Prime

I just watched this new movie on Amazon Prime. It is a modern twist on the classic fairytale, it stars Camilla Cabello as Ella, Idina Mendel as the Stepmother, Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Robert, Minnie Driver as the Queen, Pierce Brosnan as the King, Billy Porter as the Fairy Godmother, with James Corden, and John Mulaney. It's a musical, no original songs, songs from the 70's and up. It was very enjoyable and entertaining, children and adults both will love it. This Ella is a fierce and independent young woman, good message to send to young girls. There is a wink and a nod by Prince Robert to the series Catherine the Great, you'll know it when you hear it.

Thanks for the review, @Jordan2 . I'm on the fence. How big of a part is James Corden's character? I find a little of him goes a very long way.

I tried watching it yesterday and didn't make it past the first musical number. I guess I'm spoiled by the theatre, but when I see a musical I want to at least kto be able to pretend the vocals are coming out of the characters rather than dubbed in later. Nothing will beat the Rogers and Hammerstein version on TV with Lesley Anne Warren and Stuart Damon.

I don't like musicals. To me, everybody bursting out in song at random times is just dumb. I didn't like Hamilton and I'm pretty sure after seeing clips I would not like this either.

@Wsmom he doesn't have a big part. He plays one of the mice, you hear his voice more, he then becomes human for a short time. I wouldn't skip this just because of him.

I watched it Friday. I didn’t know what to expect with regards to the music. Was a modernized retelling, but an empowering one for girls (I guess). It was fine, not great. James Corden is one of the coachmen (that the mice are turned into); therefore his part isn’t too big, but is used rather for comic relief.

There’s better tellings of the story.

That is my favorite version too!

Ever since I saw her in that, I've loved her and I just saw her in several episodes of Crossing Jordan!

She was wonderful in that too, playing the mother of Lily, a main character.

I've seen the trailer of this new Cinderella so much, now I'm not sure I'll watch it. Some parts seem trying too hard to be funny. But if its free, I probably will.

Me too. Some of the casting doesn't do much for me. Besides, I'm wondering how many versions of this we need, and frankly, I'm a bit weary of the whole 'message to young girls' mantra...

I was really looking forward to watching it but I did not enjoy it at all. The older versions were much better, in my opinion, and they all looked like they were lip syncing. I did like James Cordon and Billy Porter but found the rest very

disappointing !

At some point perhaps media mavens will realize it's not always necessary or desirable to 'modernize' or to 'update' classics. Instead, maybe they could work on coming up with fresh material and creating some new classics.

I think I'll watch it with my niece and nephew (11 and 9). They'll probably enjoy it and I probably will too. I'm just a big kid at heart. 😁

JORDAN2 - Thanks for the heads up. I really enjoyed the movie. I've always found the "happily ever after because the prince rescued you" fairy tales cringe-worthy so this novel approach was a joy to watch. Also, I enjoyed the soundtrack. Who knew Minnie Driver had a great singing voice?

I like the Cinderella that was made in 2015 I believe with Cate Blanchett, and Lily James and Richard Madden, I watch that one over and over.

my all time favorite is the one from the 60's with Leslie Ann Warren and Stuart Damon!Love this one!!!!

I get this @Meowingkitty , there have been a few through the years that I like, but feel like you do about most.
