Has anyone seen Respect with Jennifer Hudson yet?

Just wondering. The reviews aren't that good and say it is a typical biopic with nothing new. I am sure the singing is great, but I wonder how much this will suffer since that other Aretha movie was just out not long ago?

I don't know where it's available but thought it sounded like it would be good. Jennifer Hudson is truly amazing both as an actor and a singer.

And also that very few are going to movie theaters anymore. My friend went yesterday afternoon to see a movie, and was the only one in the theater. It was a new one with Ryan Reynolds. She didnt care for the movie.

I haven't seen it but I will.... and they couldn't have picked a better actress/singer to play the part. Aretha Franklin was phenomenal and we all know the story but that's not the point. The point is an opportunity to see her life on the screen and to hear these incredible hits sung again.... It doesn't matter that it's been done before either, When it comes out on DVD I'm planning on buying the Hudson version!

DH and I will see it Monday night in Phoenix at a theatre complex. First movie we've seen in a theatre since March 2020.

It is in movie theatres, not on any TV platforms. I liked Cyntia Erivo in the

TV version earlier this year-she was excellent.

Last week a big Super Hero film opened in theatres and on streaming platforms.

Made nowhere near what they expected in theaters.

Guess people aren't going back to theaters yet.

Haven't seen the movie, but Miss Hudson sure put on a performance of the song "Respect" on The Late Show this week. The audience was dancing in the aisles.

Was that awesome, or what! I really enjoyed it a lot. Stephen was great in the previous segment where she, Stephen, and John sang together. I knew he could sing but he really put it all out there. So much fun.

I haven't seen it and don't plan to. Jennifer Hudson is a marvelous singer in her own right, but she lacks the effortless subtlety of Aretha's powerful yet nuanced vocal style. I think I'd rather just listen to the original.
