In the Heights movie

I have to say that this was a really great movie ... lots of good songs, actors/actresses were someone I'd like to know & played their parts well, I did not know much/or anything about Washington Heights but I have to say I'd like to visit ... seems like a neighborhood that really cares about each other, seeing it on HBO Max was not movie theater quality butt prettty darn close.

Already have my ticket to the first show on Sunday.

I originally intended on just watching on HBO Max, but saw a preview for it when I went to see Cruella a couple of weeks ago. The Busby Berkeley’esque water sequence kind of sealed the deal for me to see in the theater.

I am in Washington State also but I am pretty sure the Cinemark Lincoln Square in Bellevue is open although there may be limitations.

@DiAnne I'm in Bellingham & we are doing pretty darn good but I can'tbeliebve that we are still having issues w/getttomg things I want to do not o n. I watched In the Height through HBO Max at home as i did w/Cruella on Disney.. I love going to movies but this has been an interesting adventure in watching at home ... not quite the same.

Saw it today in a theater, first time back. Very enjoyable movie. The music, the dancing, the storyline. Wish I had been able to see the play.

The acting is very good too. Leslie Grace and Melissa Barrera are so talented and beautiful.

I just watched it, it was good, but I didn't like it as much as I thought I would. I get HBO MAX, so to me it felt like a "freebie" I didn't pay extra for it, not like Disney+ who I feel is ripping customers off paying extra for new movie releases. I can't wait to see the new West Side Story movie.

@Jordan2 Same w/us as we get HBO Max as part of our Xfinity Deal ... nice to see this movie but just not the same as in the theater. I paid for Disney Plus & added the additional fee so I could see Cruella which I really enjoyed but again, not the same as at the theater & I think if I don't continue w/Disney Plus I lose being able to see Cruella again. & evidently if I want to see Black Widow in July I again have to pay an additional fee of I think it's $29plus to see it - wow they are making money hand over fist ... is it worth it, I guess that's something I have to figure out.

I agree that In the Heights is a really great movie. We saw it on a big screen TV with a sound bar and it was wonderful!

I just got home from it - worth seeing on the big screen, but I wouldn’t call it the best of the year. I think there was a lot going on in it, which may play better on stage. Although, let’s be honest, it is very rare when a stage musical is just as good on screen. Maybe Chicago? Not sure I can name another. [edited to add more LOL going old school, but South Pacific and The King and I are great adaptations.] Luckily I hadn’t seen this on stage, so I can’t compare. The actors were wonderful; I especially liked all the female performances.

I heard it had a disappointing opening weekend. I think musicals are hard in general. Add in the fact that it was delayed a year and people can now easily watch it at home may have made that an appealing choice for some people. I realize that Hamilton is a juggernaut, but that doesn’t mean this movie had a built in fan base. It’s still a musical from a show most people probably haven’t heard of.

Let’s talk a bit about Hamilton. I’ve listened to that soundtrack a LOT. And, I’m sorry to say I heard quite a bit of the same music. The same beats. Similar wording - even the powerful “who tells your story” of Hamilton now apparently was here first. It was just samples here and there, but it disappointed me a little. Maybe I was just imagining it.

We tried to watch it and could not get into it at all, not sure if the dialogue was muffled or what, it was a big Meh for us

@I am still oxox I don't disagree with you. The first song really needs to help paint a picture of where we are, what the show is about, etc. I found myself watching the screen to try to figure out what Usnavi was saying by watching what he was doing. I agree that he was not always clear (although he was a cutie and, I thought, charming in the role.)

@NYCLatinaMe I'd definitely recommend seeing it in the theater if you can as watching on tv was good but definitely missing the experience. One thing I forgot is we have a small theater downtown & guess what, they are showing movies so there's hope for next time.
