MOVIE: Love & Mercy (Brian Wilson-Beach Boys)

I saw this yesterday. I found it to be so profoundly sad and disturbing. I guess it's a love story in the end, but it's not really about that.

I haven't been able to shake it off.

It's very well done though. Paul Giamatti is just so creepy. He will probably get an Oscar nomination.

We saw this movie last weekend. It has stayed with me too. Every time I hear a Beach Boys' song now, I remember how Brian Wilson worked so hard to find the perfection in everything. Why didn't his family take more interest in his problems? He is/was a musical genius. His father was despicable as was his doctor! Thankfully he found someone who loved him and took the time to get him healthy. It was sad, but I still found it fascinating.

The Beach Boys were part of my generation growing up and I attended three of their concerts. Although living on the east coast, my friends and I were obsessed with the surfing scene. We wanted to move to California and surf. We couldn't even swim! This movie brought back so many memories. Brian is a talent with such a sad story. He seems to be doing well now. Thank God for angels that enter our lives. He is blessed in that way.

I saw the movie Thursday. It affected me too. I was just in tears during the end and then throughout the rest of the day. My hope is that the rest of his life is full of peace and love. I thought the actors did a great job. I grew up on the BB's music but I'll be listening to it with a new perspective now.

Brian Wilson was so mistreated in his life... no wonder the mental difficulties. The film was difficult to watch, but it is staying with me, too. worth watching for me

I watched this yesterday on DirectTV Cinema and it was 2 hours well spent.

The acting was great - especially Elizabeth Banks (I don't think I've seen her before). The sets were so authentic of the time period and I'd love to have a beach house like the one in this film.

If you liked the Beach Boys and have interest in Brian's tortured life then you'd probably like this film.

It's interesting that so many sucessful musical acts have at least one horrid parent - Beach Boys, Carpenters, Jackson 5.

@Judaline No, it is new. It was released in limited run in theaters and is now available on DVD etc.

I think it was overshadowed by Straight Outta Compton.

Thank you for recommending this movie. I found it interesting to watch. I loved that it featured the Wrecking Crew, another good movie if you are interested in rock and roll history.

It was released in June, long before Compton.

It was not a wide release, just art theaters. I live in the DC Metro area, and I had to drive 20 miles to see it.

I grew up at the beach on the West Coast so this is my music! I saw them in concert at a local winery about three years ago. The movie is playing a one of my local theaters so need to get there.
