I enjoyed this episode. At first I thought Marianne and Josephus were an odd match, but then it was clear she was with him for the money. Her scenes with Kimble made me laugh. Subtlety was definitelty not her strong suit! While watching, I thought Sheree North resembled Dorothy Malone more than Angie Dickinson.

For someone who claimed to have experience only as an orderly, I think Kimble's comments about medicine was taking a chance on his part.

The one thing that I felt was a little implausible was Kimble not getting on the bus, but instead going back to help Sharon. He caught the warning signs about her illness when she displayed irritability with him by the bee hives, her sleepiness and then fainting. He just can't ignore someone who needs his help.

I liked the end scene with Josephus and how they helped each other.

I agree that Sheree North sort resembles Angie Dickinson because of the hair color. You described Kim Darby perfectly as playing troubled teens in the '60's. She was in two episodes of RFYL where she was definitely a troubled teen.

Looks interesting.

@Oznell I don't ever think Sheree North looks like Angie D. Because AD is gorgeous and I think SN has a funny looking mouth that is not very attractive but I do see the hair resemblance. She is in one of my favorite Fuge epis, Walls of Night, with Janice Rule in the last season.

i remember Kim Darby's other Fuge epi better than this one, where she plays a young unwed mother with a sick baby who lives with her religious zealot father. Speaking of Darby, this is from a very long interview online entitled The Mouse That Charmed: An Evening With Kim Darby. She was in the film Generation (with our boy DJ), a film I've never seen! From the interview when asked about that film:

"I loved [lead actor] David Janssen because I had done two Fugitive [episodes] with him and he was so funny, you have no idea. And of course [co-star] Peter Duel and I fell in love in that movie, for real. We were engaged and I [long pause] was not with him when that horrible incident happened [Duel's suicide New Year's Eve 1971]."

I liked this epi. DJ was sure looking good! ❤

His stunt double took quite a roll down the hill at the beginning! It's always a faraway camera shot for the stunt double!

Kimble always stubbornly sticks up for what he thinks is right, even if it puts him at risk. He could have just shut up about the way Josephus was treating people and laid low safely as his guest, esp when Josephus reminded him early on he was a guest in the house. But noooooo! Kimble had to keep criticizing his methods. And Kimble could have gotten on the bus and escaped, but noooo! KImble has to go back and do the right thing for Sharon.

A couple of things I didn't understand, perhaps because I watched late. How could the coroner say Josephus was too smart to hold himself out as being a doctor (which is illegal), when in fact that was exactly what he was doing? He even had signs in his office about "patients." Also why did Sharon have such a quick change of heart about real medicine being valid? Was that only because the woman with the cough died? I thought there was more to it than that.

Boy, O'Connell's eyes must really be strikingly blue for them to look so light and sparkly even in black and white. And Sheree North looked better than she did in Walls of Night but I still think her mouth is funny-looking.

I was never convinced that Sharon wholeheartedly believed in her uncle's form of medicine. She seemed to be parroting what she had heard and what she had been taught. She told Kimble the death of her father had made her turn her back on more acceptable methods but even that sounded like something she had been told as a way of elevating the natural and disclaiming the scientific ones.

I was amused by Marianne. She expected Kimble to be attracted to her and also flattered by her flirtatious manner toward him. I was surprised to hear she had been a nurse. I would have expected her to be in a profession that was a lot more glamorous and a lot less selfless.

As for Sheree North's looks I much prefer as @Oznell labeled it her "unconventional look" to the more common "beauty" of Angie Dickinson. Nothing about one reminds me of the other.

The character of Josephus was somewhat a villainous one. He knew he wasn't capable of providing the standard of care for some of his patients that was needed, specifically Mrs. Crandall. I liked Arthur O'Connell's portrayal of this character as much as I did of the one in the aforementioned "Tug of War".

Another winner in the Season Three collection which I enjoyed viewing.

@Tique Those were very interesting comments about Sharon being a true believer --- or not. As for Josephus being villainous, well he certainly was a con man, snake oil salesman. He couldn't get into (or was it make it?) at med school so he found a tangential way to get rich. Yes he admitted to Kimble at the end that people died who could have lived. Until that admission, he may have convinced himself that what he was doing was A-OK. As he said "we all die" and he thought he helped people who were surely going to imminently die by offering them a remedy that was pleasant and made them happy (like the guy oznell mentioned who gave Kimble a ride back to the house) In the end Josephus did the right thing and proved himself to be a good man.

I though Josepheus was pretty blase about saying Marianne would be "gone of course" at the end.

@Oznell DJ's fine acting is certainly worth pointing out every now and then. And again, I don't think the show would have been as successful with anyone else in that role.

I also enjoyed this episode. Two weeks in a row Kimble was able to a degree practice his profession with life saving results. That has to bring some self satisfaction. Interesting to see him conflicted by his conscience and values as a doctor being pitted against the kindness shown him by Josephus and the family.

Josephus never referred to himself as a doctor, but he never corrected others when they did. I think it nagged at Sharon when Kimble mentioned the financial side of things, and the death of Mildred weighed on her, as did the comment about how an X-ray might have made a difference.

What to make of Marianne? First, I think Sheree North was one of those woman who could be beautiful one moment then, very unattractive the next. All depending on her eyes and whether or not she'd smile.

You have to wonder while looking at the newspaper, if she hadn't gotten a busy signal when she initially called, what would she have said? She reads that he's a convicted killer, but still makes a play for him. Even Josephus eventually caught on to this. I liked that he realized once his practice stopped and the money dried up then Marianne would be gone. I like that idea, because when they returned from the funeral and Marianne was admonishing Sharon that her behavior could cost Josephus patients, Marianne has said something about maybe her uncle would finally do something about it. I took it to mean Marianne wanted Josephus to consider other arrangements for Sharon, who would always be competition for male attention.

Kimble would never be interested in Marianne. Here was a woman with actual medical training who promoted a charlatan for money.
