Masterpiece theatre pbs

Anyone watching The Long Song - I recorded it- just watching first episode and am enjoying it so far also have second episode recorded. It is shown on Sunday night.

It is about a slave girl taken from her mother to work as ladies maid in the Plantation Big House told by the girl - very good so far.

@dulwich I guess we differ on this one. I couldn't even make it through the first episode, though I tried. Maybe I'll give it another look when it's repeated. Current PBS continues to more or less disappoint, for me. Watching Miss Scarlett and the Duke but not particularly wowed by it.

@stevieb I know what you mean I nearly gave up but due to nothing else kept going and found to my surprise - I am enjoying it.

I could not watch Miss Scarlett after first episode gave up. PBS, at present, very desultory.

I have seen the first three episodes and find the series quite engrossing.I appreciate the historical fiction genre, although this story has so much tragedy embedded in it.

I watched the first two episodes. The show left me flat. I have an old James Cagney movie I've been wanting to watch instead.

The Long Song is good enough to watch, but that's about it. I quit Miss Scarlet and the Duke during the second episode. What has happened to Masterpiece? A few shows will be good but not all. I used to be able to tune into each one knowing I would like it and that it would be quality.

I have also enjoyed The Long Song. It made me uncomfortable in parts, but it's history. Not every Masterpiece show needs to be sweetness and light.

I couldn't watch episode 3 last night, but will stream it this week.

We have been enjoying the Scarlett series and All Creatures Great and Small. Watched the first Long Song...very intense. Might continue with it.

For me, nothing to do with the show lacking in sweetness and light, I simply didn't find it particularly entertaining, though I will take another look... Agree with the premise that Masterpiece has declined, overall, is the quality of their programming.

I kept thinking that several generations on, a descendant of July & the English guy's daughter that he & his snooty wife took back to England with them would get a big surprise when they do one of those 23 & Me spit in the tube ancestry things! But July's daddy was supposedly from "ScotchLand".
