History Channel

They really need to change their name to the Historical Fiction Channel.

I'm watching now - It's been on about 10 minutes - and I can't count the number of inaccurate or misleading statements they made!

I'm annoyed .... I'm venting!

How about the Travel Channel which is nothing but horror and ghost hunting shows? I'd dearly love some good travelogs.

The History Channel used to be my favorite channel, but for the last few years I've noticed its more "pseudo-history" or staged reality shows. Occasionally, you still get a good documentary, but they are few and far between.

I know...so disappointing, as it used to be a great and interesting channel, really about history or historical events. Cable now is a big waste of $$$, I don't know why I pay for anymore...there is NOTHING really of value on, and as others have said here, many channels "names" are just so misleading...it's junk show after junk show. My cousin said she canned cable last year and hasn't missed it. Of course now there's so many other pay platforms to watch the good stuff on, that it could wind up being more money, but at least you can watch something on it! There...there's my "vent."

Same disappointment recently with "Create" channel...a local pbs thing I think...it was all "creative" subjects, cooking, gardening, sewing, painting, quilting...granted, not everything was for everybody but it had some good segments. Still called Create...all of a sudden this summer it changed, and now it's all cartoons! sigh.

I'm also curious about what the show's topic was and what the alleged errors were. It would be helpful so that those of us interested could research "the truth." History is a pretty broad topic.

All of those channels have changed and bear no resemblance to the way they were when they first aired. (Un)Reality shows killed them. High quality shows like City Confidential, America's Castles, Samantha Brown's Travel shows, Biography, and the like have been dumped in favor of mainly trash. I do like the show "Vikings", however even though the only resemblance to actual history is the names of the characters. I used to watch "Deadliest Catch" faithfully but the last few seasons have been boring. That's one show that's long past its prime. And all those channels have waaaay too many commercials and promos for their other shows. It's annoying; they show 1 minute of program and 10 minutes of commercials. I've noticed, especially with Discovery Channel, that they will insert a 10 to 15 minute teaser promo for a spinoff show in the middle of an episode of the show currently on air. These tactics have totally turned me off to their programming. Even NatGeo and NatGeo wild have gone downhill.

I'm a fan of Ken Burns documentaries on PBS. Right now they are airing The Roosevelt's, starting with Teddy. I've seen it before and think it ends with the death of Eleanor.

@amyb It sounds like your local PBS channel replaced its CREATE channel with PBS Kids. PBS channels in other areas have done that too. It's probably not a bad idea with so many kids schooling at home. I also enjoyed CREATE until it was dropped by the Philadelphia PBS affiliate; we now have PBS Kids, which I believe was CREATE's replacement.

I think CREATE still has its usual selection of cooking, travel, gardening, woodworking, etc. shows but you have to be lucky enough to have a local PBS affliate that carries it.

@amyb ...cartoons? We have the Create Channel and there are no cartoons. It still only airs cooking, gardening, sewing, painting, etc, shows. But I only watch it at night so don't know what might be aired during the day. Although I have never seen them advertise cartoons.

I think I mispoke...we had two channels in a row, both CPTV, but one was Create...however they both had a similar, interesting variety of shows. Create is random now..many of the shows I never see anymore, mixed in with boring random things. (It used to be a whole schedule of related type creative shows, rather than just here and there if you happen to catch them.) The other channel now, that also used to have some of these interesting shows is just cartoons...same as our channels 13/14, pbs, cartoon schedule. All childrens's shows.

So from all those creative shows, we have Create, which is not as "creative" except randomly now and the other which is all children's shows all the time.

I've just looked up one of my favorites, "Christina Cooks" (which actually is back on Create on 10am Sat, and all her shows are on her site to stream on YouTube...so I'm good with that one at least.

I think these channels have lost their original meanings and are now scraping the bottom of the barrel to stay on the air.

Has anyone watched some of the game shows on the gsn channel? Some of those MCs and contestants act like children who are ready to jump out of their skins. Such unwarranted behavior.

I would watch them if there were some modicum of adult action, but I can't when they act like they do.

I lost interest in the History channel a while back. I remember it was President's Day and I thought they would have programming or biographies about our Presidents. Don't remember what was on but nothing about U.S. Presidents. Really disappointing.

Back when I had cable, I enjoyed Ancient Aliens on History It was a guilty pleasure, though not legitimate "history."

They do a lot of UFO speculation which I take with a grain of salt. The Project Blue Book show was good but they aren't making new episodes.
