Soaps and Various Hair Styles From the past!

Like many of you I've been watching the soaps from past years.

It's fun looking at the hair styles and clothes from years back.

Some of the soaps they're playing goes back even to the beginning of the first and second air dates (i.e. 70's and so on).

Someone said to me "you can only go so back then you have to repeat something".

I mentioned my Granddaughter (age 18) requested bell bottoms for a birthday gift.

I'm 73 and I was a teenager in the 60's, I remember hair styles, bell bottoms, it was a wonderful time to be teenager....but I especially remember the hair styles.

How about you ladies? Remember the big hair, the curly hair and the Farah wing back styles?

@Annabellethecat66 I recently received 2 pair of Laurie Felt flare aka bell bottoms jeans from QVC and love them! Giving the leggings and jeggings a break lol.

I've watched Ashley's hair change on Y&R. The really pretty actresses look good with long or short hair...flat or poofy. I'm a fan of 80's poofy looks.

@Annabellethecat66 - I also love the clothes/hair from the 70s! I remember in college getting my hair cut in a Farrah Fawcett style. It took me 2 HOURS to do my hair on a daily basis! After washing and drying, I would put in Conair electric rollers and let them sit for about 30 minutes. Then I "touched up" the side "wings" with a curling iron. And this was just to go to classes on campus! We dressed very fashionably in those days and put a lot of time/effort into our appearance. No rolling out of bed and throwing hair up into a messy bun! Boy, that would have been much easier.

I still love "big" hair . . .

@AuntG Yes (about Ashley's hair). I had no idea Lauren has been a character (with same person) on the Y&R for so long! It's obvious she's had tweaks done to her face here and there but she doesn't look a lot different.

I read somewhere where plastic surgeons say to get tweaks now and then and it will look more natural and not as noticeable. I guess that's what she's done.

I'd forgotten how good looking the head keystone kop (with a K) used to look. He's not ugly now but he was a hunk back then.

Back to Lauren, her hair at one point way back was so "poofy" I wondered if a big wind was going to start making her head spin (like a pinwheel).

It was good to see the real Snapper (I had such a crush on him) way back in the first ever episode.

I'd sit through some from the beginning except it drives me crazy the way they talked so 'artificially'. Like one would say something with a kind of lilt at the end and then the other would say something.....it seemed artificial...people don't talk to each other that way.

@joviolin I also love big hair. I used to have big hair.

I never went with the wing style. I often wore my hair in ponytails (one).

Quick store: (Off topic..kinda). So we had an old VW convertible back in the early 70's. I mean it was very old (the gas pedal was a wheel and it had a RESERVE gas tank) another story for another day.

Anyway, we were always going into places that didn't have roads...(don't ask). We went deep into the woods with this car and when my husband went to back out (only way out...backwards) the car was stuck in mud up to the door.

Nothing would get this car out of that mud. After at least an hour a cop car (lights flashing) showed from further back where the mud wasn't as bad.

We hear a bullhorn..."This is the police! We've been notified that two guys are stealing a car! Back out with hands up!"

My husband and I started laughing! He yelled, "It's OK! It's our car and it's stuck in the mud. Call a tow truck"!

So....the tow truck finally shows up and when they hooked the thing up to our car it broke the seal on a break something busted.

It had to be towed to the repair shop and it was a few hundred dollars to get the thing fixed. This was in the late 60's ... we were newly married....had very little money...slept on a single bed one mattress on the floor and now we're paying hundreds of dollars because HE got us stuck.

Now you're wondering why I mention that here....If you're still with me it's about the hair...I wore a long (mid-waist) pony tail.

See, if you just hang in there I explain why I'm bringing up the car, the mud and finally the hair......

@Annabellethecat66 True... I was mentioning on one of the soap threads the other day that it was amazing to see the changes in hairstyles overall, and especially for those actresses who have been on the shows for the long haul.

I’m watching General Hospital. It’s a noticeable difference of the MEN’s hairdo’s!

Julian on today’s show looks very different with the gray in his beard and his hair longer and darker.

Then there’s Michael...he looks like a little boy who’s mom took him to get his first haircut. He has a big swoop going on in the front. He looks even younger than usual.
