Does Anyone Else Watch Vampire Diaries?

My two daughters used to read those books when they were teens. Somehow I always seem to be changing the channels right as I'm looking for something to watch.

I've missed some so I kind of put things together and go on the internet to read about it. It doesn't bother me if I miss some (I don't see it as a 'must see' show).

Part of the time I don't understand what's going on (my daughter would explain stuff to me). I don't know what age their target audience is.

It doesn't seem to have a lot of stuff (you know what I mean) in it; but I would think I'd not let my children watch it until they were in their mid-teens

Anyone else catch this show sometimes or all of the time. I'm curious.

I've been watching the show from the beginning. For the first few years, I loved the show! Every episode always ended on a cliffhanger - it was must see TV. When Elena turned into a vampire, the show jumped the shark.

I'm barely hanging on trying to watch. The show is just a hot mess. So many good characters were killed off in the course of the series. The storylines now are just awful. I guess they don't know what to do with Tyler since he's never on anymore. The storyline with Bonnie is just BORING. Jeremy just left the show. The only good thing to happen in the last few years was the return of Alaric. IMO, the only good scenes now are the 'bromance' between Alaric and Damon.

I don't know how this show keeps getting renewed.

When I heard that the TV show was based on a series of books, I ended up reading the first three or four. The books were much different from the TV show and I just couldn't get into them.

I agree that it's curious why it gets picked up over and over. I can't figure out their target audience. It doesn't have a lot of s, e,x in it (very little even mentioned).

I realize how old I am because I have a terrible time trying to figure out which 'universe' they're in. At the end of this episode suddenly Bonnie appears to be standing next to Ian Somerhalter. I'm like...."What"?

I saw the rating they get and it's around 4 stars (which is better that most) so someone is watching this show.

I guess it's maybe even sub-teens (around 12, 13 and 14) who watch this show.

lmt, with you mentioning reading the books you reminded me about my daughter. In the OP I mentioned my daughters used to read the original books when they were young; this same daughter (now 34 years old) said she tried to read 50 Shades of Gray and couldn't finish it because she felt like it was so poorly written.

That said, my oldes daughter (who reads all of the classics and even books in French) read all three books of 50 Shades of Gray. I find this fascinating.

I guess it helps me continuously be amazed at how in the world the 'powers that be' figure out which shows to produce.

There is more like a 'throw it out there and see what sticks' kind of theory.

I watch a cable show called Episodes (the real star of it is Matt LeBlanc) he plays Matt LeBlanc but he acts like Joey (from Friends). It's neat because he often mentions the real names of his Friends and acknowledges he was on Friends....you have to see it to understand....anyway, as usual I drift off....

What I was trying to say is that it give a little insight into how these shows get produced and how they sometimes go on forever and you wonder who is watching some of these shows and why do they cancel other shows.

Have you ever watched 'The Originals'.....same process...off shoot of this show...but more for an older audience. I tried but found it too involved.

I've watched it since the beginning. I used to love it so much I'd watch it twice in one week. Now I watch it when I get to it.

I tried to watch The Originals, but I couldn't get into it at all. I think I only watched 5 or 6 episodes. I really liked the Original characters on The Vampires Diaries, but it just didn't transfer over for me.

I watch quite a few CW shows and like them very much. They are escapist television for me. I have two favorite shows...Arrow and Nashville (ABC, not CW). I also like The Flash, Hart of Dixie and Jane the Virgin. I also watch Reign, but I'm growing weary of it.

Stargazer, I also like the characters when they were on Vampire Diaries. Then, like you, I tried to watch a few episodes of the Originals (new one) and it just didn't keep my interest.

I'm the first to admit I watch a lot of different shows (not just fictional). Something has to give way, this show is/was one of them.

I have ZERO interest in Fifty Shades of Grey. A friend offered me the book to read but I declined. I heard how poorly it was written and the story just never interested me. I have no interest in seeing the movie either. I read that Ian Somerhalder really wanted to star in the movie - he would've been great - no offense to Jamie Dornan, he's easy on the eyes too, but Ian just smolders!

As for the Originals, I watched about half of the first season. The only character I liked was Elijah and he was the only reason I even bothered to watch at all. Even with him, I just really couldn't get into the story and stopped watching.

I love the Vampire Diaries and The Originals. This year The Originals storylines seem alot better than Vampire Diaries but the last 2 involving Caroline have been awesome and now that Bonnie is back (love Bonnie and Damon together) I cannot wait to see what is next. I still think that Caroline needs to be with Klause from The Originals, she is the only one that seemed to tame him slightly. I am in my late 40's and watch. I think a mature 13 and up is a good age for this. It def is a girl show though.

I had read the books, so I tuned in right from the beginning. I like it, but this season has just been rather meh to me. I'm glad Bonnie found her way back. And I'm glad that Elena and Damon are back together as I always thought they sizzled more so than Elena and Stephen. But the storylines this season overall were not that interesting. IMO

I never cared for Klaus and the other originals when they were on TVD and I don't watch the Originals now.

Ian Somerfelder would have been simply awesome as Christian Grey. Just awesome. He does just smolder. In the beginning, there was talk of casting him as Grey and I don't know why on earth TPTB decided on Jamie Dornan instead. What a letdown.

Have always been and still am a huge Supernatural fan, pretty much from midway through the first season of that show.

And I'm 60 years old.

Now Ian would of been great in 50 shades. WOW he does sizzle!!!!!

I feel for Caroline, I wish she would go to New Orleans and hookup with Klause!!!!

I agree with you qvcfan about Klause (hummmm, I know someone with that name for real). I liked it when he (Klause) was pursuing Caroline. They would be good together. I don't like Caroline with Stephan at all. It was nice to hear her sing. I like the way these people have talent for real.

I do think it's funny the way all of these people are way older than they are supposed to be on the show (high school for Elana, really).

Jeremy's grandfather was Steve McQueen (the actor).
