Popular, well-loved movies that you dislike

Are there any movies that you dislike that everyone else seem to love?

I’ll start.

Gone With the Wind

I dislike all of the characters except Rhett. Ashley is a spineless wimp. Melanie is sickening saccharine sweet. There is nothing to like about Scarlet. I pretty much feel like smacking everyone in the movie except Clark Gable and Hattie McDaniel. The slave stereotypes are awful. I will say visually it has stunning cinematography and costumes.

I thought the movie "Titanic" was spectacular, the attention to detail and the grand scale of it all was awesome. The acting was good, but I felt absolutely no chemistry between Cate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio. I thought they could have done a better job casting those roles, but I honestly don't have a better suggestion.

@bikerbabe , That one would be first on my list, I don't find the old south romantic in the least, also I don't get Star Wars.

@Suzeecat I was going to say the same thing. Leonardo has a baby face and she looked to old for him. Same with Top Gun

Let's see, @bikerbabe. I somewhat agree with you about "Gone With the Wind". Some of the musical score was stirring, and I love character actor Thomas Mitchell who played Gerald O'Hara, Scarlett's father. But the film as a whole is not a favorite of mine.

Mostly when I dislike a film it's because there's some sort of cold or cynical heart to it -- I'm thinking of "Carnal Knowledge", written by Jules Ffeiffer. Can remember when I first saw it how repelled I was by its world view. Or if it's too nakedly formulaic and maniulative of emotions-- "Love Story" fills that bill for me, ha.

I'm sorry I'm drawing a blank on others, but I know there are more! Will add later if they come to mind...

I agree. I have a hard time watching movies that romanticize the old South.

The first movie that popped into my head was Breakfast at Tiffany's. The stereotypical Asian neighbor caricature was completely offensive. It was so distracting, I can barely remember any other details about the movie. I think I found Audrey Hepburn's character annoying too.

Titanic

I picked this up (videocassette) at the library because everyone was gushing over how great it was.

I remember it was 2 videocassettes long.

Ok, Sometimes movies start slowly and you just have to be patient. But I kept waiting for it to get "good", and when I switched over to the 2nd casette it was still slow and boring, and I had to ask "why bother"?

I can't stand thie movie either! I have to instantly change the channel when it's on TV. It totally stresses me out, and even the ending doesn't give me warm fuzzies.

Regarding GWTW, I dislike the writing, the characters, and as others have stated the romanticism of slavery in the South.

I agree with the comments on Titantic, except in my case I’ve never made it through that movie without fall asleep.😴

The Godfather- hated it. I've never seen any of the other movies mentioned here with the exception of the Jimmy Stewart Christmas thing.

I had no choice on that. Where I was working years ago it was a tradition that the whole da*n office went to that movie one afternoon before Christmas. It was like working with a bunch of Christmas elves. 2 hours of my life I can't get back. I lasted 7 months.
