@catlover she is really, seriously in need of some deep therapy- I've never seen anyone as in denial as Bethany.. and mentally defiant with Dr Now's suggestions of which he recognized her denial. I personally feel she's dealing inside with a whole lot more stuff than she talked about to the therapist. And kept saying "it's not fair"? What on earth? I couldn't believe all she was eating either and barely stopped to take a breathe..

I don't know, seems her being a Counselor for addiction doesn't apply to her. Hope she can find some help and drop all that weight.

@catlover, DH and I watched the show today. What strikes me the most is that she says she has a Bachelors and Master's degree in psychology and eating disorders/addictions.

Yet, she kept fighting him on going for therapy and kept saying it wasn't helping her. She was one of those patients that kept putting the blame on everyone but herself and very unthankful.

I found myself yelling at the TV with her remarks about him not giving her the tools to be successful.

Before she had the endoscopy done at the last visit, she was so concerned and when she got good news, it was like she didn't care.

The people I felt sorry for were her 2 daughters. Her husband seemed to just "follow along" in whatever she said. And boy, he sure was very thin IMO.

Dr. Now has more patience than I could have with her.

I didn't watch, but I wonder if she can still walk or is she stuck in bed.

I often wondered about those who can't walk anymore depending on someone to buy and prepare all that food for them. They are called enablers.

Even though enablers know the dangers of all that weight, they continue slowly killing their loved ones by giving them more food.

I was surprised that Dr Now approved her for surgery. She just did not seem as though she was ready to make changes in how she was eating. I could tell from the beginning of the show that she would not be successful. I too feel very sorry for her daughters.

I hope she will follow through with therapy.

I fell sorry for husband and daughters, she seemed very cold towards them. Didn’t really interact with them at all. I couldn’t believe how much food she could eat.

I would much rather see someone committed to change but clearly being morbidly obese works for her. Hey, she's got a show after all. She's a waste of the doctor's time.

I watched this last night. She had me believing something was wrong. I'm glad doctor checked her stomach. Obviously she is eating, I have seen people on the show eat more than they are suppose to and they get sick. Not sure what she is doing. She also thought the surgery would take away cravings!!! No one told her that!!!. She really did think it was a magic pill. I am hoping she will change her mind and do what she is suppose to do.

Then I watched the sisters. I would love to know their story. They always seem just too happy, they laugh a lot but what happened to them. They have a story. They seem so sweet.

Bethany & both of her daughters are obese, but the husband was so thin, he looked anorexic. His clothes just hung on him. I wonder if he's ill or just doesn't eat or maybe, after the gals are fed, there's nothing left for him?

complaining that the program is not working. Get your lazy

self outside and go for a far walk. Sit and wonder why and

think about your next meal.

Not an inspiration for her daughters or anybody. She should

be ashamed. Easy to blame the doctor when you just give up.

Makes me mad. Back to big time eating.

I made it through the first half hour and changed the channel. Once she talked about preferring to eat alone and her feelings for food, I knew there were going to be issues. I wasn't up to hearing the Dr yell at her.

I do watched it and couldn't believe that Dr Now approved her for surgery. I feel for both of her daughters who are in such an unhealthy environment. She is in denial about what she should be eating. Even disagreeing with the therapist about what could be causing her anxiety. Really you saw a letter from your mother blamining you for her suicide attempt and you have completely forgiven it yet never talked to her about it??? No that is still haunting you.

I only watch those shows occasionally. My medical doctor doesn't refer patients to the weight loss clinic (which is part of the same health care system she belongs to) as most of her patients who had the surgery have re-gained their weight. My neighbor mentioned the same thing - 3 people in her church who had the surgery and they are gaining their weight back.....so I don't think it's unheard of to gain the weight back.

At the beginning of the show, it is clearly stated that only 5% of people that have weight loss surgery keep the weight off. I'm not 1 of the 5%. While i was never in that weight range, I lost a great deal of weight and kept it off for 6 years. When I started to regain, . the weight came back with a vengeance. I blame nobody but myself for my original weight or the gain. I have recently made changes in my diet and have lost 30 pounds.

You can bash me all you want, but I have zero sympathy for these people. None of them work, most are probably on some kind of government assistance--as probably their caretakers--and I have rarely seen an episode where they don't blame their obesity on something tragic that happened to them 20 or 30 years ago. Most of the blame is some sort of abuse but they are ususally surrounded by very obese people. Has everyone in these people's lives been abused?

I think this show is highly scripted and probably they have several stories being filmed at the same time over the course of the year. I'd bet money that the drama is for the ratings. The format is getting stale with the same scenario week after week. I'd like to see more follow-ups and a few more success stories.

The thing for me, with Bethany, was the total bs about telling the doc she was doing the diet, blah blah, and didn't know why she was losing little to no weight along the way.

You simply canNOT go from eating tens of thousands of daily calories, of all total garbage food, to a 1,200 a day diet of lean meat and veg, and not lose the weight. Just no.

Going in, I thought she was going to do well. She's not stupid. But she's making her choices and, at this point, it's none of my business. Just don't lie and bs, though, because it makes it harder to care about you succeeding.

She's also been convicted of Medicaid fraud while she was a counselor.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Attorney General Scott Pruitt announced the sentences of Bethany Sue Stout, of Alva, and Shenice Lavon Huff, of Midwest City, both of which pleaded guilty to Medicaid fraud.

Bethany Sue Stout, 34, billed for counseling services that never occurred and improperly used clients’ identities to gain payments from the Oklahoma Health Care Authority.

Stout is a licensed alcohol and drug counselor who provided behavioral health counseling services for Medicaid recipients. Stout failed to document over 1,000 sessions between three clients upon which the OHCA paid Stout more than $100,000. The Attorney General’s Office interviewed the three clients who denied receiving counseling as billed, meaning Stout used the clients’ Medicaid numbers to submit claims for the sessions not provided.

Stout pleaded guilty to four counts of Medicaid fraud and one count of identity theft.

Stout received a 10-year suspended sentence and is ordered to pay more than $100,000 in restitution to the OHCA as well as $2,000 for investigation costs. Stout is on probation and may not submit claims to the OHCA during that period.

I wonder what excuse her "therapist" has for her weight problem. She was almost the same size as Bethany....... I never saw a therapist that large and I don't think Dr. Now would have referred her. She went to her because she didn't want to go back to Houston and asked for someone in OKlahoma, where she lives. Bad choice.....

@sophiamarie The therapist also did not provide support or feedback. She asked questions and then said, "thank you for coming". No help at all as well as a poor role model for weigh loss issues.
