My husband and I thought this was a good movie. The movie is R rated if that's what you mean by a ""certain age"" but nothing like Wolf of Wall Street.

DH and I saw it earlier today. I found it to be very slow moving and didn't like it at all. Jennifer Lawrence did an awesome job though.

Wolf of Wall Street and American Hustle, both got lots of nominations. Just not my type of movie, I guess. Too much F word, which they didn't use back then, I was there. They also didn't run around without bras, either. If you are going to do a period movie, make it authentic.

They didn't use the "F" word in the late 1970's? Where? I'll admit not as many people used it as commonly as now, (or as my Mom would say "not in polite society") but I'm sure the folks like the ones depicted here (big city street hustlers and con men) did.

I think the got the authenticity of the period just right in American Hustle. Didn't see Wolf of Wall Street.

I haven't seen this one yet, but I am a huge Christian Bale fan, so I'm sure I will see it.

I definitely remember many of us gals running around braless throughout the 70's in Florida. I do it now in tops that camouflage a little bit.

The whole braless movement started in the '60's, at least on both coasts. Maybe inland the trend took longer to catch on.

I remember the braless movement but don't remember blouses opened to the waist and so much bare boobs showing. I didn't think the movie was all that authentic. The book by Wayne Dyer Power of Intention was mentioned and it hadn't even been written yet. The last scene showed a school bus and it had one of those stop signs the drivers pulls out showing in the streets when they let children out of the bus, I don't think we even had these in my area in the 90's when my kids where in school. I think someone who pays attention to details and knows the time period would come up with lots of errors.

That type of school bus was around from the late 1950's in many states and those side stop signs were on my kids buses in the 1970's in Massachusetts.

I could point to a few "Goofs", too, because much of the movie was shot in Boston and not NYC, but that shouldn't take away from the enjoyment of any movie. I think they did a great job of creating the feel of the period even if a couple of things were off.

No, I thought it was boring. I felt like it was over-hyped. I've seen other movies that are much better than this one.

My dh and I loved this one, and I did have some outfits cut like that! It was the disco era! Now wolf of Wallstreet, we both dislike very much!

I just watched this movie at home and it's not that good. I saw a mediocre script and disappointing performances by a fine cast.

I know, and he's in everything. Now he's going to be cast as Frank Sinatra in his life story??? Seriously???? Terrible casting. I would think maybe Harry Connick, Jr. would be good. But never this guy.

I have it from Netflix for the weekend to watch, I was a teenager/young adult in the 70's, so I am very aware of that era!
