Saw the new release of Lion King yesterday. Those animals look so real; its hard to believe they are not. Great movie, beautiful scenery, I enjoyed it. That Pumba and Timone crack me up! Beyonce sounded beautiful.

With all of these great reviews of the movie I just may have to go to the theater to see it...I was waiting for release on DVD!

My daughter and I saw it yesterday. It was phenomenal! If you didn't know it was CGI you would swear those animals were real. Really enjoyed it.

Saw it and liked it (almost want to see again.). But, I left really wanting to see the original!

I was a little concerned about Donald Glover as I never watched his television show and, more importantly, know him as a rapper. But all of the voices were great - including Beyonce. I was happy to see how her new song was integrated into the story. Very inspiring versus Nala just breaking out into a song and dance.

Pumbaa and Timon are breakouts, of course. Read an article about Billy Eichner and how his Timon differs from Nathan Lane’s. Very interesting as it said Nathan Lane played him a little meaner.

I always get emotional at the beginning song, but stayed strong for the rest of the movie.

LOVED IT!!!! My family and I went on Saturday morning. The theater was packed. I was singing along with the songs. My son said "Mommy, you're loud." I apologized and kept on singing but quieter.

I've read a number of reviews stating it's very sad and a much "darker" story than the first one. I'm not sure how suitable for younger kids it is, from some of the reviews I've read. Esp. since this one is much more realistic than a cartoon version.

@Alter Ego I wouldn't be surprised if that she made that part of her contract to agree to do the film.

I don’t understand the comments that it’s sadder than the first one. The first one wasn’t sweetness and light; the same stuff happens! Maybe people just have a more visceral reaction because the animals are more life like? (Admittedly I also watch a lot of nature programming and real life is much more brutal!)

@Pearlee - I wouldn’t be surprised to find out you are correct about Beyonce. Her new song was truly IMO an emotional and hopeful moment that wouldn’t have had the same impact another way.

I watched it with an adult friend. We both wondered how our grandchildren would handle the sad and terrifying parts. That Simba gets himself into too much trouble - LOL.

I think they might get too sad and scared (they are 6 and 4). My daughter said they were fine with the first Lion King. I don't think I would go with them for fear they would cry. She can take them if she chooses!

Just got home from seeing it in 3D. As I usually cry at the original, I was dreading the "realistic" death of Mufasa, but managed to hold it together. I did start crying towards the end where Simba finally sees Mufasa in his own reflection and in the stars. The way they worked in the new Beyonce song in was fine.

The only thing I didn't care for was the voice of young Simba. Both speaking and singing, it didn't work for me. Not sure why they changed Rafiki's stick, but it was fine. And the animals' mouths moving weren't in the least bit distracting to me.

I was thinking that I would go back to see it in non-3D, but not sure I need to. I am so glad they kept it so true to the original, whch has been playing on TV almost every night for the past week and I have watched almost all of them!

Just got home from seeing it. I loved it and thought it was so well done. The animals, the scenery, the voices, the music. It's a timeless poignant story.

Saw in 3-D. Scenery and animals are amazing. I think the animated version better for young children since this one seems so real. I need to see original animated - it’s been too long!

I think my 6 year old granddaughter will see it, but not sure about the 3 year old. She was upset about Ferdinand, when they weren't being nice to him......lol!

@CANDLEQUEEN - Since this version is more life-like and not animated, I think some of the scenes may be a little too intense for a 3 year old. The fighting, the death scenes, and the hyenas may be a bit scary to a 3 year old.

There are a lot of "parent" reviews out there to read that may give you more insight from a parental point of view. Whatever you decide, you know your 3 year old better than anyone and I'm sure you'll make the right decision.
