Well, it's been quite the Campy week (also reveal-y) what with the Met Costume Institute's Gala kicking off their new exhibition, the theme of which is Camp...

....and coincidentally the challenge tonight being a tie-in with the Elton John bio pic Rocket Man, costuming Elton at his campiest, guest judge costume designer of the film.

My thoughts on the designs as the went down the runway. Bolded names were the ones in the top or the bottom.

Bishme: I’m not into the denim, but that’s a good look. That IS Elton John

Tessa: Not digging it. Those shades of brown just are too blah.

Venny: Hating the trains off the boots. I knew I wouldn’t like the red/white/blue color scheme when he mentioned it, and I was right. His reveal looked like he was channeling a Chippendales show, not an Elton John one..

Hester: Oh, Lord, No! And she knows it. Was the jacket the whole costume? She didn’t need the jacket to design the rest of the outfit, just to finish the jacket. I really thought this was going to be a good challenge for Hester.

Sebastian: Looks more Elvis than Elton John. Also, why did he let those wings hang there so droopy like that. They needed to stand up. Looked like a fallen angel that couldn’t get up.

Jamall: I don’t know what to think about that one. Over the top, but NOT Elton John to me. Loved the Super Chicken comment. But the judges did like it. I think it was the exaggerated volume that Nina liked so much that turned me off.

Lela: That’s pretty bad. The fit is bad, and why did she pick that fabric. It looked soooo cheap.

Garo: That’s a winner! Look at Nina smile.

Hai Trim & Feathers - a Figure Skater’s dream (minus the feathers) - Bookmarked.

Shoulda bought some E6000 glue instead of relying on hot glue.

I swear, every week I love Christian a little more.

Sonia was brought in as a helper. I don’t see why she should expect any credit. None of the other designers gave their helpers any credit unless that ended up on the cutting room floor because they just wanted to highlight the drama between Sebastian and Sonia. And even though he didn’t give her credit for the cod piece, the things she mentioned to him about draping stuff he DID give her credit for.

That look Tessa gave after she was told she was in…..She didn’t look relieved at all. It looked like “I knew you wouldn’t send ME home. I’m just too good to be sent home.”

Well I have to say I enjoyed the whole show and thought the judging was spot on. Garo's outfit was incredible and deserved the win but man Bishme's just screamed Elton. I am a huge Elton John fan and could totally see him wearing that.

Brandon didn't disappoint. When he said he would shove his 205 pound frame into Bishme's look I almost spit my drink out and Christian is just the very, very best.

It was a good show and I am looking forward to next week.

I just wrote a reply and the topic disappeared on me. Weird. Anyway I am very happy for Garo. I liked the denim outfit as well, it really did look like an outfit EJ would have worn during the 70's (giving away my age here). But Garo's was just over the top, outrageous, but in a good way. I think that was his first win wasn't it? The outfit with the cut out mask thing and puffy shape was just plain weird imo. EJ couldn't possibly give a concert wearing a mask like that, he'd get so hot and pass out.

Yeah, Hester was SO lucky she had immunity. Didn't they comment that it looked like a Thanksgiving Day turkey? That was funny. Hester seems to do really well or really bad, no in-between with her. And Tessa with her flappy straps and unfinished hems again. I thought the pants were an odd fit in the front area. But the other two losers were even worse with the trailing bell bottoms and that blue fringey mess.

I also agree that Sebastian's costume reminded me more of Elvis than EJ. I thought he would be in trouble because they seemed to focus on him a lot during the show. And Garo's helper getting upset because she didn't get as much credit as she felt she deserved for his design? Didn't think she was like that. He had a vision and the design and I also thought the material looked really nice. Anyway I'm glad he won and I njoyed that challenge. Can't wait for the movie!

Yes, that's what happened. I was going to tell you we agreed on pretty much everything cept I think I liked the denim outfit a little more than you did. It was definitely a design he would have worn in the 70's before he started to put on a little weight. I'm looking forward to seeing this movie and I hope there is a lot of music in it. I love 'Madman Across the Water' and 'Goodbye Yellow Brick Road' both early albums of his.

I'm glad I DVR'ed it since I always end up rewinding after the judges decide who won/lost.

Before I go into the details, just a few observations. Glad to see Swatch! Those male models were hot even the ones w/tatts and I don't love tatts! Sonia is really annoying and she wanted credit for everything Garo did. Just accept it's not your challenge like he said.

Onto the critiques:

I was torn between Bishme and Garo for the win but congrats to both but Garo was purely EJ and did love Bishme's t-shirt and everything about the whole outfit. If I was a judge, it would have taken me forever to make a decision on that one.

Tessa - just horrible. She doesn't know how to finish hems and it was mentioned again. She's lucky that Lela's and Venny's were worse than hers.

Venny's was a hot mess and sloppy.

Lela - bye bye. Poorly made and when he took off the jacket - I almost fell over with the style of the pants -- those cutouts on the side were awful. I'm sure she knew that the judges would ask him to take off the jacket so see those. I hope no man would ever wear those.

Venny's was bad but Lela's was worse.

Hester had immunity and she knew she was lucky.

Everyone loved Jamall's but me it seems. I didn't think it was contemporary as the judges stated and hated that hood. I couldn't see EJ in that at all.

OMG what can I say about Garo's. Fantastic!! I agree with the costume designer, that would have been a perfect piece for the movie. Now that's a compliment!

I think Elaine is so much better looking w/the tamed hair and w/out her glasses. She's beautiful.

Brandon cracks me up every episode with his comments and Christian is a great mentor.

I loved the theme and expected over the top BLING!

Going to see ROCKETMAN when it opens. Who else is with me?

Garo Loved Garo's look and happy that he won. I'm sure every assistant also commented but bc of what she said to him (uncalled for) after he was in the top 3 - the editors probably looked for every snippet of commenting she did during their time together. Gotta create drama for the show.

Bishme - Nina was right about the reveal - every piece was well done. The embellished T was the best. Not a blue denim fan and tend to buy black jeans.

Jamall - I know his style is repurposed oversized sleeping bags. I know that is mean but not a fan as I see this time and time again. Having said that, his look belonged in the top 3

Venny - hated the train on the pants - once he saw it didn't work as he envisioned, he should have done something. Cut it off or put something in it so it didn't puddle together. Jacket was also ill fitting.

Tessa - add some olive green and you have the pattern for every sofa that was in the den or basement in the 70s.. Enough with the unfinished hems. I also wanted her to go home.

Lela - if you are going for s e * y chaps - make it se* y. Looks just sloppy.

Hester - although I'm not a fan of her personal style. I wanted her to do so much more. She could have shined and was so disappointed. Her rooster was caponed. Made a noun a verb. That could be a word and I'm suggesting that to Webster. lol

CHRISTIAN is the best part of back to Bravo

My favorites were Bishme and Garo, I wish they both could have won but I'm glad Garo did that was a spectacular design. Bothe designs looked like they were ready to wear.

On the other hand Venny, Lela were a mess but Lela was a hot mess and she had to go. I didn't like Jamal's it seemed to belong in another challenge that they didn't get to yet.

Good show though I enjoyed the male models for a change but I think the judges enjoyed them even more....LOL.

This was such a fun challenge and I was really disappointed in how many designers totally failed it. It appeared that Sebastian didn't even know who Elton John is. Now, I'll admit I don't follow celebrities at all, but some are just universal. I don't follow Kim Kardashian, but there's no way I wouldn't know who she is unless I lived under a rock or didn't watch TV at all.

But, many of the others also failed miserably. I was thinking at the beginning this might be Hester's to lose unless she can't dress a man, but I don't think dressing a man had anything to do with it.

I think it was Jamall and Afa who were working together but I thought it was funny when Christian was leaving the work room and he said "I'm Still Standing" as in EJ song and they had this lost expression on their faces. I guess they either didn't get it or are too young?

Also, what was Tessa saying about the men who smelled? Was it in a good way or bad? I didn't quite get that one. Whatever it was, I think it wasn't in good taste.

Tessa thought the smell was good. At first, it seemed odd that she was "smelling" a model that was so far away from her. That would be a bad thing. But, when she mentioned it to, I think it was Lela, Lela also thought it odd until Tessa said, no, it was when he passed by her and the smell "wafted" to her.

I'm sure Tessa heard every word. The workroom was pretty quiet at the time so I'm sure they heard it. Please send Tessa or Hester home next. Thank goodness there's no more immunity. It's about that time. Only a handful left.
