Young Man Featured On My 600 Lb Life Died

Radar Online has the story, Sean Milliken, the young guy who crocheted & whose mom died, passed away at age 29 from an infection.

ETA: He weighed like 900 lbs on the show & was the heaviest person featured on the show.

Such a shame. I always hope that those on the show will be successful in their weight loss journey, but 900 pounds makes it almost impossible. Condolences to his family, and may he rest in peace.

If I am not mistaken his Mom fed him more than she should have, while he was on the program. And he had a tough time losing weight.

His Mom was his caregiver. And once she died, I guess things got rough for him. So sad at 29 years old. Wonder how he was doing after the surgery.

Before every show it states that there is a 5% sucess rate. Hope maybe this shakes up a few people who have had the surgery to continue good eating habits.

Obesity is such a demon and there is generally a disturbing past history that is related. Even though there are those that are successful with the surgery, as they have a six month reprieve from hunger... they often don't find success over time. I know there is a lot of research on leptin and guerlin (the hunger hormones), I hope that there is some resolution for a better than 5% chance of success in the future. I wish the docs would start the counseling process sooner and more of them.,..since this is a large part of the healing process. Yes, it is possible to overcome, but you have to be a real warrior. My heart goes out to those battling this challenge and those who have lost their lives.

And there are SO many emotional triggers. Yes, the counseling needs to start much sooner, much continue much longer.

He weighed 900 pounds? How ANYONE can eat that much food and get SO OBESE is disturbing and disgusting. NOT surprised that he died.

@aubnwa01 I just learned of three other people who died recently from this show. I remember Lisa. The aritcle said it wasn't due to the weight, but of course it was as by the time she sought help, her body was in bad shape no matter how much she lost, too late.

Sad to hear. I think many of these people are at death's door when they decide to seek help. If you watch the show Dr. Now frequently tells patients that their bodies aren't going to hold out much longer.

It is hard for me to understand but I'm sure there are so many emotions that go with overeating. Most of the ones that I have watched, all they eat is fast food.

Yes, very sad as people that starve to be thin.

I think his biggest problem was his mom. She's the one that overfed him all that food & made him dependent on her for everything & when she died, he'd never learned any life skills for taking care of himself & he was just lost.

His big goal on the last show I watched of him after his mom had died was getting approved for a nursing home, so someone else would take care of him. That's sad when someone so young just wants to live out their life in a nursing home being cared for. I wonder if his mom had that Munchausen By Proxy where the mom makes their kid sick to gain attention? His was just a very sad story all the way around.

They recently had a 600lb marathon on our cable station. There has been at least 7 or 8 of the people showcased that have died. It may be a higher number.

I'm one of the 95% who did not keep the weight off. I blame no one but myself. At the beginning the weight melted off, but I was also so sick I nearly died. My hair fell out, truly could not eat a thing for days at a time. My body was so deprived that when I eventually could eat, I gained weight immediately. The food that I could tolerate was high in fat and low in nutrition. Most of the group I was in gained all of their weight back. At that time we were never told about protein drinks. But I put the blame on myself. What is really hard is to lose the weight now. To lose, I have to go down to around 700 calories a day.

I've watched this show from the beginning and mostly everyone blames abuse or abandonment for the size. But most of them are surrounded by grossly overweight family who enable. I wish the show would do more follow-ups but with a success rate of only 5% maybe there's not of happy stories.
