I’ve been watching it. At first, I didn’t think I’d like it, but after the first episode I couldn’t wait for the next! Now I want to see how it ends on Sunday.

Hang on - I'm guessing twists and turns in this series. Unlike anything else right now. Second show better than first.

it is very engrossing - some startling and upsetting moments, a bit of mystery, good acting. a bit of history (although there is a bit of modern overlay on some of the social issues) - it has definitely kept my attention.

Watching it and enjoying it thoroughly. Such an interesting dynamic in the husband/wife relationship. What pitiful choices women had to make in the late 1700's.

I have been watching The Miniaturist and am transfixed by it.

I love well-done historical fiction .... Poldark, Victoria, Jane Austen novels .....

The Miniaturist is in a category by itself. The artistic elements are superb. It is like being drawn into a Dutch Masters painting .... the fabulous costumes, the moodiness of the lighting, the characters from the wealthy Dutch merchant class and others who inhabited their world.

The use of the miniature house is an intriguing plot device. Both the replica and the house itself play a huge role in the plot. The cinematography is riveting, with many of the scenes like paintings framed by the structure of the house .... the walls, the doors, the stairwells ....

Much of the plot and dialog are very spare, but with amazing dramatic effect. The secrets of the house and its occupants, the oppressive religious social setting, the costumes, the excellent cast ..... everything is perfection.

I have watched the first two episodes each several times just to experience the spell-binding story and try to figure out the nuances of the plot. The plot twists are truly startling even if not totally unexpected.

The rational mind asks who The Miniaturist is and how he/she would be able to so accurately foreshadow characters and events to come, but in the end it does not matter. The character of The Miniaturist is a clever literary device that adds mystery to the story, with no explanation needed.

I am really looking forward to the final installment and would like to read the book. This is historical fiction at its finest!

I have not missed an episode and can't wait for the final one...I like shows that have a lot of twists and turns!

I DVRd the show, have not watched it yet. Is the last show Sunday? It was only on for a few episodes.

Yes, "The Miniaturist" is only a three episode mini-series.

I have read the book, and I will tell you that IMO the tv show is much superior. The photography is beautiful. The book drags on for 400 pages and there is a lot more about the sugar trade, and Johannes' love life is discussed quite in depth.

I agree! The first show was so slow and a bit difficult to follow. But the second episode was much better. Am anxious to see how it all ends. Very edgey and artsy! Love seeing the miniature items....

I finally watched the first episode this morning (I went to the Boston PBS website; it's available for a very short while). . .I am SO IN!

I recorded last week's episode; I will set up the recording for tonight.

I also checked out the book from the library. It's got me!
