Today Forbidden Planet (1956), said to be one of the top 1950s sci-fi movies.

Walter Pidgeon, Anne Francis, Leslie Nielsen, and who could forget Robby the Robot?

(Don't forget tonight's The Man Who Cheated Himself as a chance to see Jane Wyatt in a different role from last Saturday's Pitfall. I hope @Oznell will post something about it.)

D: Fred McLeod Wilcox. Walter Pidgeon, Anne Francis, Leslie Nielsen, Warren Stevens, Jack Kelly, Richard Anderson, Earl Holliman, George Wallace, James Drury. Sci-fi version of Shakespeare's The Tempest remains one of the most ambitious and intelligent films of its genre; only slow, deliberate pacing works against it, as Nielsen and fellow space travelers visit planet where expatriate Pidgeon has built a one-man empire with daughter Francis and obedient Robby the Robot. Great effects, eerie electronic score. Beware 95m. reissue prints. Lavish use of wide-screen CinemaScope is severely diminished on television.

Great alert! Yeah, @GingerPeach, it's such a classic! And a bit of a Canada fest, with both Walter Pidgeon AND Leslie Nielsen. I really like them, plus Anne Frances, Richard Anderson, and hey, James Drury of "The Virginian" fame...

Another great sci-fi movie from the 1950's. It's cloudy and damp here, so a good day to watch a movie. I have seen it so many times, but I'll enjoy it again.
