@SeaMaiden, I agree in one sense. I don't think we need another documentary centered around "scandal", and other sad and unfortunate aspects of her life.

What I picked up from the youtube clip was possibly an exploration of the depth of her truly singular, explosive talent. When talent like that comes along, perhaps once in a generation, it transcends the more mundane aspects of the individual's life, I believe.

There's a parallel with someone like Judy Garland-- brilliant performing life, that ultimately didn't track along with the personal life.... But the great performances are still there, generating their own kind of immortality...

There's a kind of wonder and excitement in encountering such substance. It would be nice if maybe this documentary could transmit some of that.

That being said, it also looked like it wasn't going to look away from the less salutary aspects of her life, either. How poignant was the comment of her mother, something to the effect of-- "She was a little girl wishing on a star, always trying to find her way back home".... Her mother's great grief is etched on her face...

Don’t think it’ll be the warm-fuzzy that everyone expects or

the trailer implies. There’s a good article in Vanity Fair.

If someone wants the good-feels, I would suggest watching

all of her iconic MTV videos.

Thanks much for more on the topic, @sidsmom. I wouldn't expect a warm fuzzy experience from any scrutiny of such a life.

When looking at any artist, but especially one with "dark" elements in their personal biography, I'm not approaching with starry eyes (except for awe at the immensity of talent), and don't expect comforting bromides. The outlines of Whitney Houston's life are quite stark, and the film promises to explore origins, wherever they lead.

Just like in a literary biography, I prefer an unflinching look at the life as a whole. Addiction, deception, weakness, abuse-- whatever the truth, that needs to be a part of it if it existed in fact. Such a chronicle can even serve as an urgent cautionary tale for others facing crucial life choices.

I just don't like the "wallowing" in the squalor aspect of some bios-- there has to be an overall perspective, one that isn't salacious and meant solely to titillate.

It's a tall order, I know!

Oh, boy. Fresh emotion came to me seeing Whitney and Bobbie Kristina hugging on that stage! Both gone under similar circumstances.

When I bought her CD from The Bodyguard my twins were kids and every time we got it the car I would play it. Recently, one of them told me how tired he got of me playing it over and over, lol. I loved that CD.

I just read that as a child, Whitney was molested by Dee Dee Warwick, her cousin and the sister of Dionne Warwick.

So sad. It hurts to think that Whitney, her beloved daughter and her (Whitney's) talent might still be with us if she had not suffered such abuse. We will never know.
