Movie "IT" OK for a 12 year old?

I scanned the other posts re: this movie, but I can't get a feel for age appropriateness.

My G-daughter is 12, and loves horror movies. It is rated R, but my son (age 29) said he would take her as he likes horror films also.

Is it R only because of scary, violence, blood etc? Nothing s exually explicit or anything? Her other Gram is raising her, so we were just discussing if it would be OK for her age.

We are both over 60, and I know times have changed. My kids were never allowed to see rated R unil they were 17.

Since she loves scary movies I am not worried about that part.

I would say no. How does she feel about clowns? As far as I remember the story, no blood, sex, etc., just a clown who scares children. But it is a very scary story.

I took my daughter who’s 13. She liked it- some scary parts, some funny parts. There were a lot of cuss words in it though.

The new one in theaters now is pretty brutal, much more than the original, which was a made-for-TV movie.

Not only is the new movie brutal it's relentless in its brutality.

There's no reason a 12 y/o needs to see this, it's more than scary.

Lots of f-bombs too.

See if you can find the original for her to watch.

Or make her read the book.

Absolutely not. There is NOTHING positive about these creepy, satanic movies that Hollywood is putting out constantly.

Everyone should STAY AWAY from them!

No way.............I wouldn't even see it myself.

Bad news: We hear plenty of bad language here. Worse news: Almost all of it comes from the mouths of children. The f-word is used about 40 times. The s-word is uttered nearly 25 times. God's name is misused twice, Jesus' name three times. We also hear "a--," "d--n," "h---," "t-ts" and "f-g." We see at least one obscene gesture.

Sounds really bad. I would say no too.

Going to give the kid nightmares for a long time after the movie ends!

Anything clown related is not allowed in our schools for Halloween.
