Vietnam, the miniseries by Ken Burns starts tonight.

I will miss the Emmys, but I always enjoy anything by Ken Burns. And, I guess its a time I cant ever forget. So many boys I knew went there, some came back while others came back forever changed. While I have always had a deep respect for the men and women who served, I did not believe in that war. I marched against that war many times, was arrested once so I want to really see how it is portrayed by Ken Burns. I think Ken Burns will do that era justice.

I'll be watching it, too. There was an article in my local paper about this series. It took him and his collaborater more then 10 years to complete.

My hubs & I are both huge history buffs and watch anything by Ken Burns. Wouldn't miss it for the world. It's going to be a tough watch though because I know so many VN war veterans.

Ken Burns does amazing documentaries. I recently started watching The West and was so intrigued I stayed up all night and well into the next day watching all the episodes. I learned a lot I didn't know. The Dust Bowl was excellent also.

I'm not watching it live, I'm recording it to watch as I can.

I just finished last night's episode.

I think it was very helpful and quite in depth explaining the history of Vietnam. It didn't go full "Michener" but I think it explained how all the various players came into existence.

It was a lot to digest.

In grade school, we were not taught about this period of history. I think "history" ended with WWII.

In college, we learn about Korea and Vietnam, but it was not covered in depth. And it was more about who was president at the time and the US politics of it all and basic facts.

I wasn't expecting to know people in this.

I volunteered for many years at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in DC and traveled a few times with the moving/traveling wall. Some of these men I met and spent time with at various events or worked on projects with.

I am recording all of these as my husband and I are quite thrilled to see this documentary by Ken Burns since he is excellent at them. We haven't watched it yet as we have to see the finals of AGT first.

My husband had to leave Vietnam in 1975 when Saigon fell as he served in the criminal justice service of the South Vietnamese government so it would not have been safe for him to stay there. He knows a great deal about the history of this war but know he will learn even more and sure he will find this documentary very enlightening.

Last night's episode really stays with you. I am watching these before I go to work in the morning so that I can put it out of my mind when I'm busy. No way could I watch this before bed.

Watching this makes me feel very helpless. I know how it's going to end and it's like watching it in slow motion.

Also embarassed to say I didn't know about Dr Spock or Martin Luther King Jr's roles in anti-war activism.

My husband & I have watched it every night so far..he is a Vietnam-era vet..& we are really impressed so far, although it is getting harder to watch each night. The veteran's stories are heart-breaking..

I planned to enlist in '68, when I graduated from nursing school, then life interfered & I could not go..my "big sister" did go as a nurse & did not return.

Our 2 older granddaughters (11&13) have never heard of the war. We are carefully telling them about it.
