The Wedding Plan (Film)

No, not The Wedding Planner.

I saw The Wedding Plan today. It's an Israeli film in Hebrew with English subtitles. It got a good review in our newspaper and the plot was interesting so I went to see it. I liked it, didn't love it, and am glad I saw it, although it seemed like a long two hours!

The premise is a pretty, unmarried, 30ish Orthodox Jewish woman is engaged to a handsome man who jilts her early in the film. The wedding is set for about a month away, on the last day of Hanukkah and so she decides to keep all her wedding plans (the reserved reception area, food, invitations, etc) and trust in God that she finds a groom in time. She is tired of being alone and single although she functions just fine that way. LOL - her business is she runs a mobile petting zoo! LOL

The lead Israeli actress is pretty in a wholesome, appealing way but by no means gorgeous and suits the role quite well. She "goes through" some interesting men in her attempt to have a husband within a month, including a famous popular Israeli singer, a deaf man and some other interesting characters. She is set up by two matchmakers although found the pop singer on her own in a rather amusing way.

This film is quirky and you don't know throughout either whom she'll end up with or whether she'll end up with anyone at all. I will say the ending is satisfying.

I did find the film to be fairly slow-moving at times. I liked most of the characters although some of the men came off as wimpy, and it was hard to tell a couple of the men apart as they looked kind of alike. Even being Jewish myself, I found their "peyot" or long curly sideburns that Orthodox Jewish men have, rather distracting and I kept focusing on those.

I would recommend this film as something different yet a kind of female fantasy story we've seen before. Maybe the story was familiar but the setting (Orthodox Israeli community) was not. You certainly needn't be Jewish to enjoy it - it's a universal story of a woman tired of being single and wanting to get married - this one has a self-inflicted deadline though (within a month). Although slow-moving at times, I give it a B+

Thank you @Pearlee. I just ordered this movie via the library ... 29 on the list ... so it will be a while. However, I can wait ... I have alot of movies on request

Thank you for letting me know it has subtitles, not all of my family will take the time to watch a movie with subtitles ... their loss!

Here is the trailer, ladies. It gives you a good idea of what the movie is like (as @qbetzforreal already saw). @mzlg After you finally do watch it, please come back to this thread and let me know what you thought.

I'd meant to mention that the subtitles aren't an issue at all - it's very easy to both read and watch and they aren't distracting whatsoever. I read online tonight that the pop singer is really a famous pop singer in Israel which is interesting because I liked the song he was singing in one scene and thought he was good.

I really liked the main character because not only is she a very good actress but she potrayed a very modern Orthodox Jewish woman. Her clothing was pretty frumpy (covering her up a lot) but she certainly wasn't.at all. She had a lot of spunk!

I saw The Wedding Plan last week and rate it "two thumbs up!" Despite the fact that it was slow in parts, it was also funny and feel-good. B+, for sure.

We saw it last week. It was sweet. A friend of mine had a different view of the ending. She thought the girl dreamed the end.

@evelyner Thanks for not giving anything away though. I read an interview with the director (I think she wrote it too) who stated that she meant for the ending to have a mystical quality to it (which it did) in keeping with the lead actress' attempt to put her faith in God to find her a husband, but that it was indeed "real" as opposed to your friend's view. Again future posters, let's not give the ending away as Evelyne was careful not to. I really didn't know how it would end and that was a good thing.

Thank you, Pearley, for this recommendation. I think I would enjoy this movie, despite its having slow moments. Love stories of the human heart.
