Too Many Game Shows and now they Are REPEATING the Game Shows!

Over and over (I thought it was my imagination) but on the regular channels they not only have game shows everywhere (we've talked about that). However, they are repeating the same game shows! Good grief!

I'm watching Shazam with Jamie Fox and I have seen this show 2 (yes 2 times) and they are repeating the same show AGAIN!

This has happened with several other game shows. This is the only one I've seen played 3 times. Most are "only" 2 times, but the summer is still young.

Are they trying to save money, or what? This show gives more money than most, maybe that's why they keep repeating it, plus I'm sure he gets a chunk of money for hosting.

I mean there really isn't anything on TV in the evenings on the regular channels.

I have cable and get every channel offered so I should (and I will) just dial into something else, but it does amaze me the way they keep playing the same game shows.

I mean this isn't like a movie or something. There is no mystery.....you know who wins the game! Crazy!

Try Hollywood Game Night!

That's a funny game show. We record it and have just finished up watching the last episode. I don't think it gets repeated as often as the newer or remade game shows do (as you say 2 - 3 times a week).

@sandraskates I have watched it several times. You are right it isn't repeated on the popular channels; but perhaps that's because they've sold it to the game show channel and they play the episodes and repeat them a few times.

That's OK with me because I realize they have to fill up the time. My frustration is mainly with the popular regular channels repeating these game shows.

I keep flashing back to when (in the summer) the channels repeated the shows that we watched in the fall (real shows, real stories). I remember everyone (myself included) was upset that the re-runs. However, it did give people a chance to see shows we hadn't been able to see during the first showing. That was OK and it was mainly back before the DVR when we had to 'pick' a show to watch.

I am with you. I like Beat Shazam alot, but some new episodes are in order!!!

I tell you Summer TV is awful.

I have over 300 channels and some nights I can't find a single thing to watch that holds my interest for more than a few minutes.

I do love Shark Tank and watch the older episodes on MSNNBC at night.

I finshed Orange is the New Black on Netflix. Now I am binging on Power on Starz.

I had not seen it before. So I have 3 seasons to catch up on so that keeps me entertained.

They're cheap to produce and require minimal writing... One of the reasons for the uptick in 'talk' and 'reality' shows is that they cost less and typically require less overall production: sets, writers, wardrobe, over-compensated actors and so on...

Normally I enjoy game shows, but really folks, isn't there someone else in the USA who can do a game show besides Steve Harvey. He's okay at what he does, but let's give some other people a chance. Steve tends to drift into some pretty shady comments at times, and gets tuned out at my house. The worst seems to be Family Feud. How many shows does he have now anyway?

Let's get more people more like Alex Trebek and Pat Sajak (sp?). Or the guy who does Let's Make a Deal.

@Perkup- I hear ya on that one. We had a guy - I think he did the weather - on a local channel. He was very good and very pleasant. He left to host a game show that was on national TV. I think it lasted one season (if that) and that was it.

I've yet to see him resurface on another show.

Probably not as good of a career move as he thought. :-(

@Annabellethecat66 I think you may already be aware of this but if you love game shows there is a digital channel that does show up on many cable systems called Buzzr which features game shows from back in the day . . . I find myself watching this channel and the others (Antenna, Decades, etc) more and more often these days . . .

@momtochloe.....thanks for the info. I LOVE the vintage game shows. What was considered risqué 50 years ago would be considered boring today. I also find the lack of political correctness, from back in the day, refreshing.

The other day I was listening on the car radio to Entertainment Weekly XM Radio and they said that 'directors' are no longer that 'producers' are the one's that run the show?

I understand the role of producers but obviously I THOUGHT I understood the role of producers because it seems like now they do pretty much everything. I have to wonder if this is another cost cutting thing?

What do you guys think and have you heard anything like that?

I don't like game shows like I used to but I agree with whomever it was that spoke about Steve Harvey. I cannot stand that man.

What is it about him that gets him so much/too much air time? I don't know him personally but I've read some things from various people that spoke about his back stabbing to the top.

Then there was his cheating and leaving his ex wife for his now wife who is very, very pretty. His other wife was more to his level in the looks department but then again, he wasn't rich enough at the time to get the one he has now. I don't watch any of his shows.

Uhg, @Mmsfoxxie, I agree!!!! And he goes on and on about how he gives her the credit for him turning into the man he is today. And he never comes off as a nice man. He can be downright mean and snarky and then laughs and everybody laughs.

Oh wow, I sure wish we got Buzzr and Decades, I love the old game shows so I would like Buzzr, we get Game Show Network and sometimes they will show the old game shows early in the morning...........we get METV, Antenna TV, and GET TV, Laff TV............I like these classic TV shows better than what they show now, better writing and the shows are actually funny instead of being just lewd, crude, and rude.....

Oh @Spurt I wish you received those channels too as when both of them run marathons (for Buzzr say old Match Game shows and for Decades my beloved Mary Tyler Moore) I am a very happy camper!

Jeopardy is about the only game show I watch. I just like trivia questions that chlalenge me as well as the contestants. However, I have noticed that they are adding more and more of the game shows now. My only objection is they hire game hosts that already have perfectly good jobs with exposure. Why not find newcomers and give them jobs as well. How many gigs does a person have to have, for heaven's sake.

BUZZR is very annoying about repeating the same episodes over and over and over. I love the old "Match Game," but I'm so sick of tuning in and seeing the same contestants. Wasn't that show on for years and years in the '70s ??!!!

Yes, I wish I could get those channels. perhaps Ill contact my cable carrier. At least METV has some good shows including Mary Tyler Moore (both the Van ****** Show and The Mary Tyler Moore Show, also Columbo and they have some of the funny old sitcoms on in the early morning and when I work from home I can watch those.......
