I was watching Jerry Seinfeld's net show "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee," which is hilarious if you haven't seen it before. Here is the website.

This week his guest is SJP. I thought it was so funny at the restaurant they were at when the bill came, Sarah was trying to figure out the tip and was going to give a 20% tip. Jerry couldn't believe that's all she was going to give the waitress. For a $37 bill, she wanted to leave 20%. Jerry, left $20 instead. I mean, they are famous actors who make a lot of money and when SJP was calculating the tip on her cellphone to "move the decimal and take half," give me a break. She is worth a lot of money. I'm glad Jerry put her in her place and called her on it and then tipped the waitress well (who had to deal with a camera crew the whole time).

I've heard so many stories of celebrities being lousy tippers. What a shame.

On her show, Wendy Williams said that she never tips more than 20%.

She may have never worked as a waitress before. A friend of mine who lived in PA many years ago and waited tables served Steve Lawrence (the old crooner singer). The bill came to $200 for the table and he gave him a very small tip. He said he never forgot that and viewed him as a tight wad.

In the Comedians... show, I just thought it showed a very respectable side of Jerry Seinfeld.

I don't think anyone should expect a tip no matter the amount. And they should be thankful when they do get one.

If a wait person is only making a bit more than $2 an hour (that's how it is around here), tips are supposed to help make up the difference.

So to never tip someone--unless service was abysmal-- is downright mean.

I've read that she grew up with a lot of siblings and in ""relative poverty"" and had to help support the family. As a result of that she's probably still frugal no matter how much money she makes.

I saw her interviewed not long ago and the interview was in her aparment. I was surprised at how cluttered it was and I thought she's live a much more extravagant lifestyle.

I would have liked to have seen that interview. I saw her on oprah a long time ago and she was taking Oprah around new york city buying what I thought was just junky stuff. I also read about her being poor when she was younger.

I watch comedians in cars getting coffee on Crackle.com and really like it.

20% is a generous tip and I do not believe that wealthy people are obligated to tip more than anyone else. Does the reverse apply? People on fixed incomes aren't required to tip???

Sarah Jessica Parker grew up in Nelsonville, Ohio near Athens and was very poor. My mom grew up in that area and the poverty level is pretty high. That is maybe why she guards her money tightly. However, if you have ever been a waitress, you will always be a good tipper (unless the server is EXTREMELY bad) . You know how hard that work can be.

Someone not being able to figure a 20% tip in their head is a failure of the American educational system.
