Finally got Netflix- free trial

I got an offer for a free month of Netflix so I just signed up and installed the app on my iPad a few minutes ago. My husband isn't interested at all so I'll be the only one watching. I signed up for downloads only. I'm not interested in DVDs

I'd been toying with the idea of trying it for a few weeks now because I'd like to see The Crown. I plan to start watching it this afternoon.

Any recommendations for me on good movies you be seen recently?

Please try Offspring. Very funny but also some tissues. There are five seasons on Netflix. I love this series so much that I have watched three times.

I loved The Crown. Cant wait for season 2.

I really like Narcos. It is disturbing how evil some people can be but if you can handle that, it is very interesting and compelling.

I love Orange is the New Black so if you don't mind language and the occasional adult content scene, with the exception of the third season, it's an excellent show.

I tried one month free and still have it almost 8 months later. I try to watch at least a few movies a week and one or two series a month so it is worth the cost.

It'll be 8 years for us in February - love it. We also recently also got upgraded to Xfinity 1 and now can just watch Netflix streaming via our TVs. It's great.

As far as original Netflix content, Bloodline is tops bar none. A great drama w/top notch acting and stars Sissy Spacek. There are two seasons, and a third is scheduled for this year. It took 5 or 6 episodes for me to get into it, and then boom! I was in hook, line, and sinker.

I don't know your interests, but if you like sci-fi, Stranger Things was "okay." Started out pretty good, got kind of lame in the middle, and ended strongly. There is only one season, but it was good enough, that I will watch a second season.

Longmire is really good. The next season will be its final season.

The Fall is a British crime drama but was really, really intriguing. There are just three seasons of it. It was very haunting and stars Gillian Anderson.

The Crown was very good, too. Even my husband liked it, and he generally dislikes anything British-related.

I like Orange is the New Black, but it is not for everyone. The great thing about a subscription to Netflix is that if you don't like something after starting it, you just stop watching it! A poster recommended The Investigator the other day, and I tried to watch it a couple of nights ago. I got through the first episode and half the second before I called it quits. It was just too boring and contrived.

If you need recommendations for series that have appeared on TV or cable, I have a bunch of those to recommend, too, and I'm sure others do, too...

My favorite show on Netflix is Detectorists. It's a low key British comedy depicting the life of metal detector hobbyists in the British country side. The writing is excellent, the landscape is beautiful and the soundtrack is wonderful. No profanity, violence, or heart stopping tension; just sweet, funny interactions between friends.

I noticed that you asked about MOVIES and it seems like everybody has responded with the names of shows.

You can do a search for movies, if you have any titles in mind. Or, just cruise through the different categories (comedy, drama, doc, etc). Tht's what I do if I don't have something in mind.

Just finished the 10 episodes of The Crown - wonderful.
Loving 'Rectify' - was shown on Sundance but now on netflix.
Don't know how I missed The West Wing back in the day, but watched all 7 seasons recently.

If I had Netflix, I'd watch Iris (2015), a documentary about Iris Apfel, and Finding Vivian Mayer (2013), a documentary about a women who was ordinary in life, but a trunk of photographs and negatives found after her death revealed she was anything but. This site has trailers for both.

I signed up for the free trial back in November just to see the Gilmore Girls revival. I had no intention of paying for the service after the 30 days, but after poking around to see what was available I decided to keep it.

Back in December, I binge watched all three seasons of The 100. I heard it was a good show (it is) and I was glad that I was able to catch up before the fourth season starts (Feb 1 on the CW).

Currently I'm binge watching Merlin. Just starting season three (two more seasons to go). How did I ever miss this show when it first aired? It's wonderful; interesting stories, pretty scenery, a little bit of humor and a cast that's easy on the eyes!!

On my watch list are Jericho and Eureka. Never saw either show when they were airing years ago, but heard they were both pretty good.

Also on my list are shows that I have watched but would love to see again: Roswell and The Gates.

I would also like to watch their original shows: The Crown, Stranger Things and Travelers.

ChickenButt answered questions of mine, way back when my husband wanted to get it and I was on the fence. I'm so glad we have it now. I really like it and watch it pretty often. I do like that it lets you see a snipette first to see if it seems like something you might like.

@gidgetgh, a second vote for The Fall. It is a really good series. If you can get it on Netflix, watch Boardwalk Empire. I can't remember if I saw it on Netflix or Crave TV. I have been planning to sign up for Netflix but I have been getting a lot of series from the library this winter. I will wait until I finish those and go for it. Enjoy! LM

What IS roku? We watch a lot of British shows (on Masterpiece) and I thought I heard you can watch them with roku??? If so, I want that!
