Does anyone remember Tootie ??

I was just thinking about how home shopping has changed. We got HSN shortly before we received Q V C. The hosts used to have this horn they called Tootie, and people would call in and ask for " toots ". There were a lot of funny and sometimes cringe worthy moments in those early days.

I remember Tootie, That was fun! I bought a parakeet, and callled her tootie. I remember Steve that was on, and so funny! I was so sad when he passed. I got to talk on air a lot. I have never talked on air at Q.

Steve passed in August of 1998,

Steve M. Chaney, 41, of St. Petersburg Beach, Fla., formerly of Arlington Heights, was a television show host with Home Shopping Newwork for the past 12 years. Mr. Chaney died Aug. 15 in Florida of complications from a brain tumor after a two-year battle with cancer.

Steve Chaney, unfortunately, passed away at an early age. He was kind, funny, a good father and great on the air.

Loved Steve Chaney!!! He cracked me up. Remember Mindy McCormack was pregnant at that time. Very entertaining programming.

Yes! I think about how far the shopping channels have come all the time. I think about how the merchandise has broadened and improved over the decades. I remember when the presentations were hokey and both HSN and QVC sold mostly junk and if you bought something from them, you didn't go around announcing it. Tootie and Levine dressed up in silly costumes and that QVC dog...lol. Murphy? Long before there was Dmq or Absolute, HSN sold an early for of cz in colors. Emerald Ice, ruby ice, sapphire ice on wimpy silver chains....we bought that trashy stuff....lol

Wow does that bring back memories. I remember tootie very well plus when they pulled out the colored envelopes with a certain amount of 'cash' you could use on future purchases. I also remember a beautiful female host named Carmella with long brown hair and the prettiest smile.

@chrystaltree-----Watch what you say, lady! I have several of those pieces of trashy stuff are are pretty darned nice, with a piece of crummy trash here and there.

My spending limit on jewelery was the 69.95 +S&H. If I knew how to post pictures, I would show you. First purchase was 14KT chain that had I You on the links, for DS's GF (86)

I had never heard of QVC,until years after watching HSN, I couldn't get it until about 1999 or 2000. It is very entertaining being able to watch both channels. I post only here, because of people like you, that I really enjoy.-------tedEbear

My cable channel had the Home Shopping Network in the early 80s, long before QVC. OMG Bobbi Ray Carter and her permed hair, giant nose, gross red fake nails. It really was a freak show, even by 80s standards. SO SO bad...LOL. I think they keep her around because she was the first but she is still horrible.

I remember Tootie. We've had HSN since about 1986 but didn't get QVC until 2004.

I remember when Ed Purser died also. I believe he died in his sleep.

Remember Larry Muzzy? He was always fun.

I remember Tootie and Bobby with her permed hair. I thought it the middle of the night that's when the bargains came on. I still have 2 bracelets from that time one was a ruby the other an emerald. Both have faded in color. I bought them both set in that fake gold they still sell. That turned black green.

This topic brings back wonderful memories. I think I started shopping at HSN in the summer of 1992. We didn,t get QVC in my area until a few years later. Steve Chaney was my favorite host. We had to order by phone then-no computer ordering then. Watching HSN was fun. There was a fashion designer named Shell Keppler then and she had the first of the embroidered clothes. Today, they are everywhere. Her line was called Lacy Afternoon. I still have a few pieces because they are exquisite. Shell Keppler played the part of Amy Vining, a nurse on General Hospital. Sadly, Shell died about 10+ years ago, at a young age. HSN has always been a very customer-friendly company. Their sales are definite bargains, Those early years were exciting and entertaining. I bought so much that the bars in two closets broke from the extra weight.

I remember tootie. Do you remember when they had Spin to Win? I was a lucky caller and 500.00 shopping credit. I remember buying Capodimonte, telephone, binoculars, clothes, can't remember everything else. We still have the binoculars.

I certainly do remember! We didn't have cable yet and HSN and Value Vision were on regular stations.

They played fun games and callers were live and not on time-delay- which wasn't always a good thing.

At first I thought you were recalling the comedienne, Totie Fields.

No I never watched HSN, didn't even know it existed during those years while I was working full time. Didn't start watching QVC until the mid-90s and still didn't know HSN existed.
