Remember Thelma Lou from the Andy Griffith show?

Betty Lynn the actress who played her will turn 90 on Monday. Interesting article about her on Yahoo. I still enjoy the reruns, even though I have seen them so many times.

Can U imagine those dear people living in today's world. Aunt Bee and other people would be mortified. I feel a little depressed seeing how the world has evolved since those times.

Those "people" did not live in any times - old, current, good, or bad. All of the characters were from the imaginations of the show creator and writers. It was entirely fiction and mostly filmed on a stage.

Of course they were fictional characters, we know that. But i assure you that there were people very much like them up in the country in the 50s. I knew them, they were my relatives. The best people on earth. Simple times.

Really??? And here I thought it was all real! Tell me it isn't so.......

(It's just remembering when there were simple, funny "nice" shows to watch on the TV instead of a lot of the "stuff" that now passes for entertainment. It doesn't hurt to lose yourself in fiction occasionally. No need to pour cold water on it. I think we're all too aware of the real world.)

And coincidentally, I was just watching two episodes of "The Andy Griffith Show" tonight! You know what? There are still people and towns like that!

I, too, still enjoy The Andy Griffith Show reruns, especially the ones with Thelma Lou! Betty Lynn retired years ago to Mt. Airy, North Carolina and still shows up at the Andy Griffith Museum once a month to reminisce with fans and sign autographs. God bless her and I hope she enjoys a wonderful 90th birthday!

I guess I'm a little confused as to why they would be mortified. The world is constantly evolving since Adam and Eve. Remember what Cain did to Abel? The world in general was never Utopian except perhaps in our dreams.

@SharkE, Agree, however Aunt Bee or Thelma Lou would have given you a hug while you ate a piece of apple pie (NO chrisp tender here!), and told you that it would be alright! You'd feel better than ever.

The fact is there is no Mayberry - and people are not at all like the characters on 50's TV. It was totally unrealistic - no one ever lost their temper, kids never yelled and ran around or broke anything, the parents never had a fight -- totally unrealistic. In the real world there are humans and we are ALL flawed.

I have readc that in real life Andy griffin and the lady who played Aunt Bea did not get along at all, and had a hard time working together.

Think what a better world it would be if
all - the whole world - had cookies and milk about
three o'clock every afternoon and then lay down with
our blankies for a nap. Or if all governments
had a basic policy to always put thing back where
they found them and to clean up their own mess.

And it is still true, no matter how old you
are - when you go out into the world, it is best
to hold hands and stick together.

I lived in those times. Simpler. Good manners and respect for the most part. Children raised as a family unit and innocent with good manners. People had good manners and helpful. TV was funny and entertaining, not the violence and s###x like today. Left something to the imagination. Romantic.

ROFLMAO You go girl ! I think the big difference is today church membership has declined . People worship the wrong things and don't like you to talk about times that were less troublesome.

Frances Bavier had depression I think and was not so nice

My daughter's boyfriend said everyone that was happy in that series was unmarried. Otis the drunk is the only married one

Still a wonderful program

I think some was filmed in Mt. Airy, I wll check and report
