For those who have pierced ears...

Wasn't sure if this topic belongs here or under Jewelry....

Was wondering for those that have pierced ears, at what age did you get them pierced and who did the job?

Back in the day, my MIL didn't want me to get my daughter's done.

I got mine pierced at 6 months old by my pediatrician, as did my mother, my grandmother, etc. I got my daughter's done in the same fashion, much to my MIL's chagrin!

I think it may be a cultural thing, too. 👂💎👶👵

I was in my early 30s - had it done at an earring place in the Mall.

When I was growing up - ear piercing wasn't a "thing." I think I'm the only person in my family (incl. cousins) who has pierced ears.

I was in high school when a bunch of us girls headed to our favorite hangout...the new mall and we all got our ears pierced.

I got my ears pierced at a much later age than most women. I was 32 years old. I had my piercings done at a jewelry shop in our local mall.

I"m not sure why I waited so long. I guess until that age I wasn't really all that much into wearing jewelry. After my ears were done I made up for the time loss by buying lots of QVC earrings.

To this day, I still love wearing earrings. If I forget to put them on when i go out I feel lost without them.

i was a married adult. Had piercing at a local jewelry. DH called the whole process barbaric, but didn’t comment once I went ahead with it.

@ALRATIBA See, that's why I think years ago especially, it was more popular in certain cultures as most, if not all of the females in my family got their ears pierced as infants by their doctors. Half the time when you were looking at a little baby when they didn't have much hair, the earrings were the only clue that you could tell it was a girl. LOL. 👶

I was a freshman in college when my friend numbed my ears with ice and stuck a needle through it.

I was such a coward I didn't get my ears pierced until I was 40! DS got me a gift certificate to a local boutique.

The owner did all piercings and was so meticulous about placement. I went back 6 mos later for a 2nd piercing.

I recall my oldest sister going to the doctor for ear piercing.

Baby ear piercings I think are a cultural thing.

I had mine pierced in a doctor's office during my freshman year at college in the mid 60's.

I was about 25, and my mother (about 59) got them done at the mall in one of those kiosks. I have no idea why either of us waited so long. I since went on for further piercings . . . 2 more in my lobes and a targus and a rook.

@SloopJohnB I had mine done at nine years old. My mom took me to our family doctor. My dad was horrified. He thought it was barberic too. Haha. He adjusted though. There were no mall piercing places when I grew up. I presently have three holes in each ear and wear earrings in each hole daily. I feel naked without them.

My mom and her sisters had them done at birth. Def cultural.

Like proudly, girlfriends did it in the bathroom with ice cube and cork. Luckily she did a good job.

Ice cube & a needle when I was 13, I did a good job too but got grounded for a week ...so worth it.

My Aunt pierced all the girls ears in our family. She would ice the ear, take a very thick needle and take an earring that hung slightly and put it in the hole while the needle was still in there!!! We would then have to put neosporin and or alcohol on the lobes and were told to move the earring around. Believe it or not, we never got an infection. I was about 13 when I decided I wanted this barbaric ritual done to me. 😝 When I was about 20 I decided I wanted another piercing above one of my originals. My sister in law took alcohol and a post earring and just jabbed it in and put the back on it. It really didn't hurt because it was so fast. 😝

i was a teenager....i remember my aunt using a needle...and put a potato behind my ear!
