Do you throw away all packaging materials as soon as you receive item?

Sometimes when reading reviews customers complain they can't return an item because they've already thrown away the box, packing materials, bags,paperwork, etc. I've seen it so many times I was wondering if most people do that. I keep all bags, boxes and packing materials until I wear it, wash it, use it or whatever just in case I would have to send it back. Am I just ******? My basement is full of QVC boxes that I will be getting rid of now that the holiday return policy is almost over. I am just curious. And is it wrong that I don't feel bad for them because they threw everything away? )

I usually keep shoe boxes. But there have been occasions where I tried on a garment, thought I liked it. So I wore it and of course washed it. I have returned items in different shipping bags, boxes, etc. if they didn't meet my expectations. Never once was I not refunded if I returned it in the designated time frame.

I do not throw away the packaging until I am certain that I will be keeping the item. I also keep all paperwork for the same reason.

I keep all packing material in my basement until the return period is up.

I do the exact same thing.

However....

You do NOT need the original packaging to return something. Pack it in anything!

The 30 day return policy is UNCONDITIONAL!

You can easily reprint a receipt or ask C/S to email/mail you one.

There is NO excuse for not returning something for these reasons.

I always keep the recepts along with the return slip. But, I mostly have plenty of boxes around that I can pack in. And, if it comes in the soft packaging, I would never get it back in that anyways. I received something once that didn't include the return label, so had to go online to print it out. I do usually keep the original packaging for a bit, but I rarely return things.

I always keep the boxes that laptops, printers and other large electronics come in just in case i need to return them. I save some shipping bags in various sizes from multiple vendors because they’re convenient. I save most of my receipts for about a year, the exception being Lands End. Lands End has a lifetime warranty on all their merchandise. They don’t require a receipt for warranty claims, but it speeds things up if you can give the CSR the order number of the purchase.

I keep receipts and file them. I don't keep packing material or the brown box the item comes in. I do keep the box that has product info on it until I am totally sure. I am talking most about electronics.

The receipts and boxes I keep are for things like computers that may go wonky in the first couple months. (Been there, had to send one back to Dell and it was nice to have original box.) Apparel and shoes I've learned to try on immediately, I've been burned by letting things sit for six months and the correct season. So, no, I try to throw out bags and boxes quickly, there is enough junk around here.

I do keep all shipping material for about a week (I buy mostly clothing). I try the item on soon after receiving it and if I like it, I will wash it soon after that. So after a week I pretty much know whether I will keep it. If I were to buy an appliance or something of that sort I would probably keep the shipping boxes for a month in case the item failed in that period.

About the only things I order from QVC are a few clothes (no shoes) and Dr. Denese. I keep the packaging for clothes until I've had a chance to try them on. I never keep the Dr. Denese packaging since the item is what I needed. I buy electronics or other large items locally so I don't have to mess with returning anything via mail.

I keep all packing materials until the 30-day return window expires. Then those plastic bags get re-used as dog poop bags for my yard clean up.

I only keep the packaging until I know I won't be returning the item. I'm not the type who keeps something and then decides to return it on day 29 so I don't hang on to the packaging. I do keep shoe boxes because I store my shoes in them.

i keep all of the boxes and packing material in the laundry room, until it's too late to return. plus, the recycle people only come every other week.

no, i don't think there is anthing wrong with not feeling bad. maybe, if it's their first time ordering anything online. everyone has a choice of what to keep and when to get rid of something.

I hate the clutter, so I throw away. I do get burned, of course, by thinking an item is great and then realizing that-for any number of reasons-it's not! I don't have a basement so that's part of the problem. What I really need to do is stop buying so much STUFF.

I've learned to keep packaging for varying amounts of time depending on the item purchased. I have returned stuff in my own packaging with a return label I printed from this website, but it is a lot easier to use whatever it came in.

I think shoe boxes are the only requirement when returning to a store. It's such an odd rule and learned that the hard way when I went to return a pair years ago.

I know Zappos wants you to return with the box but I don't think they deny your return if you don't have it as they take returns up to one year.

If it's something I would need to ship back to where I purchased it, I keep the packing until the return period is over or I know I'm keeping it. If it's a big ticket item I keep it until the return period is over in case it stops working.

I keep the box and packing until I'm sure it isn't a return. I always keep my receipts until I get my credit card statement or even longer. I know you can return items in a different box if you no longer have the box QVC used for shipping. You can also go online and print a receipt and return label if needed.
