Shark vs. Dyson

I have two shark vacuum cleaners and love them both. One is the rocket, with the cool attachments and the other is not a rocket and it doesn't have any attachments. I love that one for every day vacuuming, because living on the beach I am forever vacuuming up sand. I've never had a Dyson, or even tried one in the stores. However I do have two Dyson fans and they ROCK, which makes me question if I would love the Dyson vacuum cleaner just as much.

Have any of you tried both the shark and the Dyson? If so which do you prefer and why? I'd love your input today while the Dyson is a today special value.

My Mom purchased a Dyson last year (might have been off the Q, don't remember) and she loves it. I have used it while at her home helping out and I must say it is awesome.

However, I have a Shark (owned for 5+ years now) and I found them to be comparable in quality. I absolutely love my Shark and when I purchase a new vacuum some time next year (want to move my current one upstairs and keep one for downstairs only) it will be another Shark.

@SurferWife, I just purchased and received the Shark Rocket Ultralight Handheld. You can use it like a regular vacuum or handheld. It is awesome. The suction is outstanding. It has a 5 year warranty vs. 3 yr. with Dyson. I paid $129 and change at QVC and 5 easy pays and with the shipping charge it is still less than anyone out there. So happy I made this purchase. Why should I pay $300 + when I can pay $250 less and have an excellent product.

I have had both, returned Dyson too heavy and did not do a good job. Love my Shark...lightweight and picks up all the hair from my furbaby. Just my opinion...

I purchased my Shark through QVC and after using it one time, gave away my Oreck.

In terms of cost and ease of use, I feel my Shark is the tops - I enjoy using it each time I vacuum and would buy it again if mine should go kaput.

Wow! Thank you ladies for all your valuable feedback. If I could I'd have to select all your responses as the best reply. I think I'll stick with my shark! Like I said in my original post I love my sharks, I have no complaints whatsoever. The cordless feature of the Dyson was intriguing me, so perhaps I should do my research to see if Shark has a cordless option. Thanks again for all your input. Aloha!

Several years ago I bought a Dyson from BB&B. It broke the first week. They replaced that one and it broke the first time I used it. Returned it and bought a Shark. I don't even have carpeting, only tile and wood floors and a few throw rugs.

I have both. The shark is corded -- the Dyson is not. For that reason I MUCH prefer the Dyson. I hate dealing with cords. The Dyson is always there -- ready to use. JMO. I should add though that it depends on what you want to use it for. We have a housekeeper so I don't vacuum the whole house. For that I would definitely prefer the corded Shark. I use the vacuums only for quick things like the kitchen floor or vacuuming up litter.

One big difference; the Dyson is repairable should something go wrong, the Shark is not.

My sister bought me a Dyson, which was very nice of her, but I never did like it. Too heavy & cumbersome to use & never picked up as well as I though it should. Most especially for the amount of money that she paid for it.

My MIL moved in near usa few months ago when her husband died. I was helping my husband do some things around her house & I used her Shark Lift Away Navigator.

I came home & put one in my cart at Kohls. I waited for a good sale, coupon, ebates, & of course, free shipping & I got my Shark.

It is like the Ferrari of vacuums. Lightweight, long cord, great attachemts, pulls itself around. I love it so much, I don't mind vacuuming the floors.

I have 2 dogs, a husband & 5 grandsons. It gets a work out & I love the Shark.

Have both and in fact have 5 Dysons if that is a hint of which I am amazed at the designers brilliance. Men use The Animal for deep cleaning and gals the easy to use ball that still gets up deep down dirt. Shark is great also but Dyson's inventions amaze me and I am normally tight with money. Have purchased 2 children a Dyson also. Thank goodness for Payments. HAPPY CLEANING. ROFL

A Shark can't hold water to a Dyson. Worst of all it seems Dyson spends a lot of money on research and new inventions. Soon after Dyson comes out with a new invention like the soft floor brush, Shark copies it. I fell for the Shark commercial and bought one. The foam filter is a mess, the dirt gets sucked right into the filter, not ergonimic and very heavy. Shark is a wannabe Dyson. My Dyson is almost 20 years old and still going strong. I bought another one just to have that model in reserve. It's still brand new in the box. My Dyson might outlive me.

Shark now has a stick vacuum that is cordless, and it comes with two batteries. The cord on my vacuum was never a bother for me.

I am 60 years old. I was just telling my dad yesterday (as I cleaned up broken glass ornament shards after a toppling Christmas tree accident) how I wish I had all the money back I spent over the years on worthless vacuums. I swore I'd never spend the $$ for a Dyson. Then I did four years ago, and I've never looked back! I am not a fan of their fans (lol - too noisy), but you would have to pry the vacuum from my cold dead hands.

I have both, and can't really say I prefer one over the other except for the fact that the attachments are mounted right there on my Shark and my Dyson attachments are in a bag in the closet. So for the convenience sake I usually just grab the Shark.

I just bought an Oreck from Amazon and spent most of the morning on the phone trying to install the handle. (It said no assembly.) The is my 3rd Oreck and I may return it after all. Seems there is so much upkeep now. They recommend changing the belts so often, etc. I can't do that myself and seems no Oreck dealers around here now and I'm not about to drive over 25 miles to take it in. Reading here about the Shark and Dyson. I need something lightweight. I have a lot of carpet and liked the Oreck I had as I could also go over the tile floors before I mop.
