I've been eyeing those bread cloches for a long time.

Since I'm not a member of Sam's, buying it online will cost me $60+ with shipping and their 10 percent non-member free. Still, not bad. Still thinking about it.

Again...thank you for the tip!

@AuntMame As another hint, the "red" one is a beautiful maroon color and very glossy. The gold knob sets it off.

I used a recipe with 2 cups of flour, could easily gone to a 3 cup or a little more. Two cups is about a 1 lb loaf in the bread machine I think. Three cups 1.5, and four a 2 lb? I may be a little off on this, but close.

I took the plunge and bought a bread cloche off Amazon for $40. Love it! I've been experimenting with it. It can easily hold a 4-cups-of-flour loaf. Also discovered that if I preheat the lid (450F for 20-30 minutes) I can get a nice crackling bread crust just like when I bake in my cast-iron Dutch oven.

But what I most like about it is that's so much easier--and lighter--to lift in and out of the oven than my heavy Dutch oven.

Again...thank you for the recommendation!

By the way, I bought it in cranberry too. Amazon is selling gold replacement Dutch oven knobs for $10 for a package of 4. So I bought one of those too to swap out the silver knob and make it look a bit more festive.

Not all the time, but it does. So if you're going for an enamel-lined pot you want something good that you can depend upon and which will not self-destruct as you cook.

Modern cheaply-made cast iron cookware often doesn't hold and conduct heat well. Because overseas makers of cheap cast-iron cookware throw ****** into the smelter. One is best off buying Lodge (only their USA-made stuff, but that doesn't include enamel-lined pots), Staub or Le Creuset (French) which take care in how they make their cast iron.

I love cooking with cast iron. I'm a huge fan. It holds heat well. It's great on the stove, terrific in the oven. It goes from the stove to the oven. I use my cast-iron daily. In fact for some things I will only use cast-iron. Pots like the TSV are especially great for baking crusty bread.

I'd love to have a Le Creuset pot, but I'm getting to the age at which such things are getting too heavy for me to lift off the stove and in-out-of-the-oven, especially when these large iron pots are filled with food. So I'm sticking with my Lodge and truly ancient (but lightweight) Farberware.

I hope this sheds some light on the issue.

They describe this design as heritage and vintage-inspired. Just because it's old doesn't mean it's good. Innovation can be a good thing. I have very old LC pans with lids and handles like this that I found at yard sales. They are a pain to use. I mostly just display them. The ring lid is easier to use if you have a hook kind of gadget to lift the lid up. My sons cooked in cast iron (not LC) at boy scout campouts over a fire with lids like this and they used either a hook or pliers to lift the lid.

The colors are nice but I wouldn't spend this much money on this kind of design. I wish they had the kind of lid that doubled as another pan.

@skittles2 wrote:

I've never seen an LC vessel like that. There is no way I could own it. I really need handles I can grip securely while stirring on the stove or placing a heavy pot, which is made heavier with food, in and out of the oven.

Unfortunately, this is a no-go for me.

Maybe there'll be other items discounted.

But I will definitely be watching. I'm glad Nate's on!

💞🐾🐈‍⬛🐶🐾💞

Very much agree. I would be worried that a heavy pot with handles like this would slip out of my hands while I am lifting it.

My Lodge cast-iron Dutch oven has a lid with a handle like the one on the TSV. Don't like it much. Too hard to get my fingers around the handle in order to lift it, especially if I'm wearing Ove-Gloves and it's hot. The handle on the TSV looks downright diminutive in comparison.

There are a few vintage ones on the Bay....

Le Creuset Legumier is the name of the pot.

If you're into all that "Wicked" stuff, LC has vessels with that theme too, etched into to lids of the pots.....

I ended up planting herbs in mine for awhile. I wouldn't pay hundreds of $$ for anymore.

I have three Le Creuset vessels and I absolutely love them. I think they're worth every penny.

The TSV is a beautiful pot. But for my use, the weight of it must have the looped/open side handles, not these curved ones. There's a reason some heritage things from the past are revised for a better design. This looks like an accident waiting to happen -- speaking for myself.

I have two smaller versions with the original-type lids ... bought them "as is" and they must have been display versions, as they were brand new.

They aren't offering the Osyter color this time around, which all my pieces are ... wonder why. So this is a no-go for me, anyway ...

Here's my 4.5 qt. ...

Also have this "as is" 6.5 qt, which I might give to my DIL for Christmas ... she's a great cook. But then again, I might keep it and give her another color ...
