Hi, I think I may have found an answer from reviews posted on Dyson's website. From what the poster indicated this model does not have the option of purchasing an additional battery to keep charged as a spare like the DC44. Once the battery runs down the unit has to be recharged.

As far as purchasing a replacement battery should it fail, there was no available information either. So I guess one would have to contact Dyson or take the unit to a service center and have them replace the battery.

So I am considering the tsv but would like to know more about the battery, can I buy a spare? How difficult is it to change/ replace? Sounds like the battery life is not long on running time, is there plans for extending this in future models?

Hi, I purchased the DC44 Animal Digital Cordless Vac from QVC when it was a TSV about 2 years ago. I am also considering today's TSV because of the motor head which provides substantial more power than what I have.

Back to your question. After I got my DC44, I went to the Dyson website and purchased a spare battery. I highly recommend anyone who can afford it to do so. I usually run my vac on the Max level and it drains the charge pretty quickly. Having an extra charged battery is great. It appears the battery placement on the DC59 is in the same place as on my model. Mine is very easy to replace.

I questioned the Dyson rep if my present batteries would operate the DC59, he said no. So I went to the Dyson Webpage to look and see what accessories/parts they had available for the DC59. I could find no battery and it now makes me wonder if the DC59 has a non removable battery.

I will look further and if I can find a definite answer, I will post back.

I did not buy this even though I was tempted. The battery idea stopped me cold after I had a chance to think about it. I have had other items, big ones that run on batteries that charge. Most did not have the power of the electric plug.

bonnielu, I agree with you, some of the battery operated items we use in our household do not have the power of a corded item. However, I am highly pleased with my current cordless DC44 and would have bought the DC59 in a heartbeat if I was able to get a spare battery.

There is only one carpeted room in our house so I still have a corded vac for that room, the DC44 does the rest of the vacuuming. After reading about the DC59, I am confident it would have tackled the carpet in our bedroom and probably did as good of a job as my corded vac.
