Corky's Wings TSV 1/25

I've tried Corky's Wings in the past. I know these are popular [because they keep having them on-air]. This is just my personal review:

Never again.

Pro: they really are huge wings with plenty of meat on them. I only needed 3 pieces in a meal, and I can usually throw down on some chicken wings.

That's the only Pro I have.

Cons:

1) the seasoning, no matter which kind you select, is barely noticeable. I think Corky seasons for the church banquet, in that it looks good, but you can barely taste it so as not to offend someone who'll say "too much seasoning for me." Unfortunately, the result is these taste like nothing. They look good for the camera and photos, that is all. That whole slow roast story is absolutely undetectable.

2) They are rubbery. Cooking them by the directions leaves you with wings that taste like they were only 80% cooked.

3) Expensive, even for very large wings. (Granted, supermarket wings have become really small little things for a while now.) Plus, Corky's minimal seasoning and not being cooked well means I have to still do all of the work.

I had to make my own seasoning mix and rub all over the wings. Plus I lowered the suggested degrees and re-heated twice as long to eliminate that rubbery chicken and rubbery skin texture.

My guess is that's what they do for the on-air presentations. The backstage food handlers add extra seasoning and cook them far longer than the package says. Otherwise they'd be trying to pull that meat and skin off for days!

My sister ordered these in the past also, and we had the exact same review of them.

If that's not your experience with them, or you're trying them for yourself -- Enjoy!

Thank you for the review. It sounds like Corky's should stick to BBQ; leave wings to the folks in Buffalo.

I do love Corky's Baby Back Ribs though. Also pricey, but prepared BB ribs are about the same price here at the better restaurants where I live near DC. Even preparing myself doesn't give me that same slow true barbeque taste.

Corky's are absolutely delicious and worth it to me.

I kinda thought they would be rubbery. I don't like huge chicken wings.

I used to order Corky's ribs until one shipment sat at a UPS warehouse over the weekend and arrived warm.

Corky's wings us one if the few qvc food items I've ordered and I thoroughly enjoyed them. All I did was smear some bottled barbecue sauce on them and stick them in my Breville oven for a few minutes. As noted, they are very large and meaty. Two make a meal for me. I didn't find them to be rubbery at all.

@Caaareful Shopper I have never had them so I can't speak on Corky's brand specifically, BUT I did have some wings by another brand, and what I did to avoid the "rubbery" texture is to just do them in the air fryer. They came out crispy and good. But the whole lack of flavor thing? I'm with you there I would need to put more seasoning on them. I need flavor on my wings!

At Duff's in Buffalo, NY, there are eight heat levels for the sauce: mild, mild medium, medium light, medium (IS HOT), medium hot (IS VERY HOT), hot (IS VERY, VERY HOT), super hot, and death. They also have BBQ and spicy BBQ.

I'm a lightweight - mild medium is my style.

@eadu4 Yes, we think very much alike on this.

I did try a small amount in the air fryer. Initially, they got wonderfully crispy on the outside, but the majority of the meat was still a tough and rubbery. But then I adjusted to just a very low heat/circulation for the air fryer, and they did come out much better.

@Caaareful Shopper lol my husband won't eat them anymore if I do them in the oven. He insists they are so much crispier in the Air Fryer. But I most definitely agree you sometimes I need to adjust the settings to get it just right. And then there's sometimes the meat just can't be saved UGH. And I just can't do rubber chicken wings lol.

My family loves these wing. Granted, we lived in Memphis for 10 years and generally think Corky's can do no wrong. I disagree with the lack of seasoning. I think it's fine. These are meant to be a smoked wing, not a buffalo wing. They're seasoned, not spicy. I cook them in the air fryer and don't think they've ever been rubbery. I will agree they are expensive if you're comparing them to raw wings from the supermarket. If you compare them to take out from your neighborhood sports bar, they're probably very competitive. A pound of wings at our neighborhood bar runs about $15. Add tax and tip and these are less. I can throw them in the air fryer with some fries and we're ready to eat in less time than it takes DoorDash.

@RollTide2008 I'm glad you enjoy them, I sure many do which is why they seem so very popular on QVC. That's great. I can only give my own personal review.

I never said I want them spicy, not at all. I can get spicy or Buffalo wings in my neighborhood. To me Corky's has very minimal seasoning. Even the seasoning that I added was not spicy, but I added enough to get a good flavor for us.

Like most processed food, Corky's wings have way too much sodium for me.

I'd rather make my own.mChicken wings have been my favorite part of the chicken since I was a child.

Back then they were cheap, not like today when you pay through the nose for a bite or two of meat.

I bought a 10 lb. bag of wings at Costco last night for $17.99 (on sale - usually $24.99). It's a little bit of a process, but we like mine. I dry them out, season, air fry, toss in homemade sauce (Franks Red Hot & melted butter). Lip-smackin' good!
