I think everyone should learn something about diamond thats the only solution we can know about this.

In a perfect world, all Gold jewelry is marked with a big, bright 14K stamp. In the real world, there are hard-to-read stamps, stamps that mean gold-plated, stamps that are fake…and the list goes on.

Here are a few stamps which signify the piece is NOT gold:

14K 1/20 (1/20 gold is basically gold-filled)

14K G.F. (gold-filled)

14K G.P. (gold-plated)

14K H.G.E. (hydrostatic gold electroplating)

14K G.E.P. (gold electroplating)

.925 (sterling silver)

Source

Is 14K mark deceptive?

I've never purchased 14K over resin jewelry, but I did note that these items are stamped 14K. I imagine the layer of gold is the absolute minimum, while the resin may double the overall weight.

A while ago when the price of gold was through the roof, I sold some older 18K and 14K pieces which were evaluated based on their weight. The idea that one must remember what items in her jewelry box are or are not resin-filled is stupid. Had that been the case with my transactions, I would have felt I was passing along the deception...

Probably not. People who buy gold for a living pretty much know what they're seeing and weighing.

I love the resin idea. I save money when I buy, have the look of real gold because the gold is real - and the money I save when I buy the piece makes up for anything I might "earn" later if I want to sell.

Actually, I'm probably way ahead because I sell almost nothing unless it's badly damaged. I love gold, know what I like in jewelry and keep what I buy for years and years. At my age, that would mean what I buy today will be in my jewelry box when I head to the nursing home or beyond. And, the money I saved? I get to choose how to spend that!

I would never buy gold - over resin or silicone. I wouldn't enjoy it. I also prefer 18KT - QVC spoiled me years ago. If I wanted fashion jewelry, I would buy that. Fortunately, I have plenty of great jewelry that I purchased from the Q years ago.

I tend to lean toward it being too misleading to be honest, marking it 14k. If somebody took the piece and weighed it, they would be lead to believe that the item is actually THAT many grams of 14k gold. It actually is not because I would imagine the silicone weighs much more than the gold that surrounds it.

I don't buy these items either. I'd rather pay for something of better quality. One main concern, beside the fact I'd be paying premium money for silicone, is that it gives them license to use gold sheeting that is sooooooo thin it would not be very integrous.

I think it's deceptive and I believe there should be a different mark designating specifically what the product is. I agree with viwanton, when we purchase it we're supporting the practice.

Nevertheless, each person will inform themselves and "vote" with their money, which is as it should be.

That's where I got my huge Omega (38 grams of 18K) A neck chain (40 something grams of 18K) for my husband. Couple of bracelets and Sonia Bitton rings and bracelets. I sense what would happen to 18K gold, so I purchased what I could!

Anything short of that is misleading. If I held in my hand a piece that was hallmarked 14k, I would expect that the full weight of it HAD to be 14k gold. That's why other costume jewelry cannot be hallmarked - it contains something besides that which can be legally called 14k gold.

I've seen some nice pieces on QVC, but have hesitated because of it possibly being filled with something and marked 14K.

I don't see why they mark it as 14K. HSN's Technibond is 14K over .925 sterling silver, so it's all quality metal. I have some nice pieces of it. Have had some of it for many years, and it still looks beautiful.

A refinery will pay you for the gold + the silver if someone wants to sell it.

That makes sense chicken because if someone sees a 14K stamp they/meaning I would think it was a chunk of 14K gold.

I'm sorry to bring this up but this seems like the way the world is going anymore. It used to mean something when you saw 14K you knew the piece was solid gold. Now it is ok to say 14K and the buyer beware.

I am the first to admit I don't know much about gold, diamonds, etc. I only know what I like. I don't buy much gold these days. I did buy a few pieces that I knew were gold (they weren't thick).

Anymore sorta, kinda and so on is taken for real when it isn't. Chicken, I think you make a lot of sense. Too bad it will never happen because these days (like I said) kinda and sorta means real.
