Earring Backs

I recently heard Lisa Robertson & Judith Ripka refer to a certain type of earring backs that they said were the very best. I was unable to catch the entire conversation. Does anyone know what type earring backs they were talking about? Do they come only on Judith's earrings or are they available individually? Thanks for your help.

Didn't hear their discussion because I rarely tune in for JR, but could they have been discussing the silver "smiley" backs Honora first brought to QVC? I love mine - have them on several pairs of pearls - hope someone knows the right name!

They are called Happy Backs. They "smile" when they are on correctly. If the back is upside down, it creates a frown.

You can also get the Honora happy backs on amazon. Amazon has knock offs too but I wouldn't recommend. Rose

I don't understand the big deal about the happy backs. I mean, they work very well and I have many, but they've been selling those kind of earring backs in Asia for years!

Also check around for large stainless steel earring backs. It's the size that makes them work... they have some weight and keep the earring balanced. I bought large stainless steel backs from Q a few years ago. I have happy backs for Honora earrings. Both work equally as well.

Well, not everyone has been to Asia or has the means to order from there, so it's nice to have them available here.

Yes, Judith's smiley backs. I agree that it's the size of the back and they've made them for years. Michael Dawkins also puts those oversized backs on some of his earrings. It makes all the difference!! They're great.

You can also buy larger earring backs at craft stores in the beading section. Wide variety of plastic, rubber, stainless steel, and mystery metal. Usually large packs for just a few dollars.

I now use silicone backs. It gets rid of that ""will my earring fall out"" anxiety.

I have to get some of these. I hate wearing those plastic backs when my hair is up and you can see them (probably no one notices but me, but still... ).

Yes. I've lost a couple of earrings that I really liked because the back wasn't sufficiently secure.

I sure do! I've lost my share of earrings over the course of a lifetime and don't want to lose my truly special ones. Thanks to everyone who offered advice on this topic.

Yes! Yes, I do too! I use a variety of silicone backs for the different kinds & sizes of posts on my earrings (stud posts, shepherd's hooks thin/thick, Etc.).
