I am suddenly have problems on my ring finger between my last ring of my wedding band set and my knuckle. The area will get red, puffy (blistery), itchy and irritated. The rings are platinum.

NOTE- the skin UNDER the rings is perfectly fine. It is the area after the last ring and before the knuckle that is angry. If I remove the rings the skin gets noticeably better within a few minutes with no treatment.

I have normally wear my rings 24/7

I have been trying to be very careful to dry that area completely after hand washing (I wash my hand consistently).

Since the bands were made 7 years ago I lost 10 pounds but they still fit fine. All my rings fit the same.

Any ideas what this is all about?

It seems odd that if it is a reaction to the metal it is not UNDER the rings.

Thanks!!

If you think that you are having an allergy to a hand wash, try using one that leaves out coloring and fragrances and leaves out the preservative methylisothiazolinone. Methylisothiazolinone is a known skin allergen.

You have to read the labels on products as this ingredient is in a lot of cleansers, laundry detergents, shampoos, and conditioners. Even Cetaphil cleanser has this preservative in it. Cerave cleansers don't, FYI.

http://www.paulaschoice.com/cosmetic-ingredient-dictionary/definition/methylisothiazolinone

If earrings make your earlobes itch or your necklace leaves a rash around your neck, you may have a nickel allergy. It’s one of the most common skin allergies, in part because nickel is used in everything from jewelry to cell phones, coins, zippers, eyeglass frames, belt buckles, and keys.
