Ever lose an expensive piece of jewelry?

Oh no @Nataliesgramma .... I am so sorry you lost the earring. I am sure that not only is it expensive but holds a great deal of sentimental value. Perhaps it will turn up someday. Back in 1994, after my Dad passed away, my Mom had a pendant made for me out of Dad's wedding band. She had a gold backing attached to it and a small diamond inserted in the middle of the backing. Of course she had to have a bail attached. I wore it on a chain for the longest time. I would take it off every night and place it on my dresser. One morning when I went to put it on I could not find it. I tore the house apart looking for it and called all the places I had been the day before to ask if anyone had found it. The most difficult thing I had to do was tell my Mom I had lost it. We were both heart broken. About a year later I took out a container of jewelry cleaner. I had been simply using ammonia to clean my jewelry so I had not looked in this container in over a year. Well lo and behold.. there was my Dad's pendant in the small basket inside the container!! I have not worn the pendant since out of fear of really loosing it some day.

Yes. It makes me sick in the pit of my stomach. Even though we have everything insured it still upsets me and I get so mad at myself.

My 14K Bezeltine (sp) from the Q, when gold wasn't so expensive. The good news when I discovered it off my wrist the next morning and had torn apart car and bed and house, a little birdie told me to call Pets Smart where I had been the night before. My head said, no, if you lost it, it would be gone. I kept getting the nagging voice that said, CALL.

I did call, they asked me to discribe it, did, and they had it. A customer found it in the cat food section, where I had been, turned it in to the clerk, who in turn gave it to the manager and it was put in their safe.

I did write a letter about the clerk who did this and the manager. I could not thank the person because no one knew them and no name.

I lost a 14K watch. I went to Selfridge's for a sale on crystal. It was crowded and I had crystal goblets on my mind. When my Aunt asked me what time it was - I discovered the watch was gone. I suspect a "pro" lifted the watch. It was never loose and the band was quite secure.

Yes, my Carolyn Pollock Utah bracelet! I think I accidentally threw it away. I was cleaning, and remember taking it out to polish, last I saw of it. Yes, I do pray to St. Anthony all the time, but he couldn't help me this time. Here's the rhyme, St. Anthony, St. Anthony please come around, somethings lost that can't be found. Then you say what you lost. 98% of the time, he finds it for me.

Oh, I know how it feels! A few years ago I lost my favorite Sonia B 18 k pave diamonds hoop earring somewhere at the mall. I cried and cried and was very mad at myself. It was 1.5 tcw in that earring. My husband told me that it is not the end of the world, made me call Sonia's office in NY and they made me an earring. It cost me,but I have my earrings. I also bought the identical pair in silver with Brilliante from Sonia and now when I go shopping or travel I wear them and my real babies go to the bank.

So as long as you are ok.....

Two gold bracelets from QVC, one at a surprise birthday party at a restaurant, one reaching for my Taco Bell drive thru order. Called both places, they had gone to new homes. Now I never wear bracelets in the winter except lobster claw clasps, no chance of them working loose unseen under coat sleeves. At least they weren't sentimental.

yes ... so subsequently I am pretty much unable to wear any expensive piece I own. Weird isn't it, how truamatic this can be. Mine was a gift from my mother.

Diamond in my wedding ring, but son found that. Also found my aquamarine bracelet when I emptied the water from the waterbed. Didn't even miss it.

I have, over the years, lost a few pieces of jewelry. Fortunately for me, nothing expensive but I was in my car one day about 5 years ago and took off one of my earrings to use my phone and never saw that earring again. I looked high and low, used a vacuum nozzle attachment with a pair of hose on top and nothing. It was not a super expensive earring but was part of a necklace/earring set from my best friend for my 50th birthday. Anyway, two weeks ago we sold that car and I told the new buyer about the earring and asked him, if he ever found it, to just drop it in my mailbox. He said he would but truthfully, I don't ever expect to see that earring again.

On a happier note, hubby and I were in a local diner back in December having breakfast after mass. As we were walking back to our car hubby looked down and saw something shiny and when he picked it up we saw that it was a gold wedding band with an inscription from the early 1950's. We went into the diner and asked the owner to make an announcement but they weren't inclined to do that so we left our name and number with them and told them to call if anyone came in looking for that ring. I was really sad thinking that someone had lost this ring, memories of a very long term marriage (almost 60 years) so later that afternoon I printed up two flyers saying that a wedding band had been found in the parking lot and to call with descrpiton and inscription to claim. I went back to the diner and asked the owner if I could put up the flyers, one on each of their doors, and he said I could.

Fast forward just a few days later (Christmas Eve morning to be exact) and our phone rings and on the other end is a practically hysterical woman whose elderly mother lost that ring the week before. They were back at the diner for breakfast again and saw my sign. She identifed the ring and the inscription and within 30 minutes was at our door picking it up. I don't recall a better feeling ever...what a joy to be able to do this for someone and see the happiness it brought.

Yes I have, I had a black hills gold ring. It was designed like a bunch of grapes with blue sapphires as the grapes. It was lovely. This was back in the 80's when you could purchase black hills gold almost everywhere. It was a gift and I have never seen another one like it. I hope you find your earring.

While you cannot replace the actual piece, oftentimes the loss can be at least partially reimbursed on your Homeowners or Renters policy ..... have you checked with your insurance agent?

Not yet....I haven't told my husband yet.....I am hoping to find it...LOL

Thank goodness no! I always thought how horrible that would be to lose something valuble.... I had a lot of really nice gold heavy Italian pieces I bought years ago when gold was so cheap that I worried about being robbed..... So, I sold all of it two years ago and made a lot of money. Now I am free of the fear of being robbed. It was like a weight lifted off my shoulders. I do not miss all the gold jewelry anyways. I rarely wore it. Selling it was like freedom!
