What do you ladies do to prevent your Judith Ripka (and other brands) sterling from tarnishing? I'm scared to buy sterling that's not rhodium or platinum plated but would like to buy some of her rings.

How does her sterling and tarnishing compare to other brands? What advice can you give to a sterling newbie?

Her sterling is rhodium plated. I find that it does not readily tarnish. That said, I do store my ss jewelry (mostly Ripka and Yurman, which isn't plated) with 3m anti tarnish strips. They should be replaced every 6 months or so. You can also store silver in a zip lock type bag for extra tarnish protection...but I find this unnecessary for Ripka pieces.

Are you sure it's rhodium plated? That's not mentioned in any of the descriptions and most of her videos that I'm trying to watch won't play. Is rhodium mentioned in her on-air presentations? I've only ever heard it mentioned if it was gold plated. Rhodium doesn't tarnish.

I saw this on her website and I'm sure it doesn't apply to her QVC jewelry:

Rhodium is a derivative of platinum and is often used to plate sterling silver, as well as white gold. The pieces in our 18k Couture White Gold & Sterling Silver/18k Gold Collections are plated with a very thin layer of Rhodium to help prevent tarnishing and scratching, while retaining the jewelry’s natural luster and shine.

TTerri, yes almost all of her Q stuff is definitely rhodium plated...I own quite a lot of it, as well as pieces from her non-Q lines.

Her current pieces on QVC are, and those of the past several years. But if you buy from her earliest QVC collections on ebay or other sources, FYI, those are not all rhodium plated.

Why are you afraid of silver that is not plated? I have pounds and pounds of it and rarely find it necessary to polish anything. Usually if I do, it's a piece I left sitting out. I keep most of my collection in boxes lined with anti-tarnish cloth. Lori Grenier at QVC has them and HSN has the Prestige boxes.
