The magnets in bracelets aren't strong enough or close enough to interfer with the working of a watch. I've worn magnetic bracelets next to my watches for years with no problems. I wouldn't wear a watch when having a CAT scan but the small magnets in bracelets don't pose a problem.

I really don't understand why the hosts don't mention when selling jewelry with magnetic clasps that you can't wear it next to your watch or it will mess up your watch. Maybe everyone knows that? I just find it odd that they don't talk about that. The magnetic clasps are great, but NOT next to your watch.

Does it stress the battery out because the watch is keeping time and the battery is interfering? I ask because I wear a jody naranjo bracelet with a magnetic closure next to my watch 5 days out of 7.

I just googled it. There was a thread here about this very thing in 2010! Guess I missed that. Anyhow, it just says not to wear magnets near your watch because it can drain the battery. Also, no one with pacemakers can wear magnets.

The only thing one should be concerned about is magnetic closures not being very secure on bracelets because they can easily come undone and eventually lose the bracelet.

As far as not wearing it next to watch, that is not really a problem. The distance between the magnet on the bottom of your wrist versus the top of your wrist where the mechanisms of the watch would be, it's too far apart to ever be an issue. Also like someone else mentioned, the magnets used in bracelets is certainly not that strong enough to damage the inner workings of a timepiece.

With that being said, don't know why Q is insistent on using magnets on bracelets. Certainly not a good idea if you plan to keep your bracelet for awhile. It's just an accident waiting to happen. Sometimes I think Q views their audience all of the older generation and we all prefer "comfort" over style. A true quality/designer bracelet would NEVER use a magnetic closure, LOL! Wonder if the Vicenza trade fair show showed many magnetic bracelets in their booths!!?

The last half dozen or so magnetic bracelets I've gotten have a barrel clasp with the magnet located deep in the barrel. They're not really attracted to the usual steel objects. A couple also have "8" safety clasp. I have a Gems en Vogue charm bracelet with a barrel clasp that is really strong. Even with the heavy fully-loaded bracelet, there is no way it's going to come loose. The magnet is so deep that it's not attracted to anything. I'm not in the least worried about losing this bracelet

A magnetic bracelet ruined my computer at work. I was using a laptop. It started acting weird a couple of days, and then was totally fried on day 3. The computer was new, so our tech girl assumed that mine just was flawed. When I got a second computer, a couple of weeks into its use, my new computer started to act odd. It dawned on me that perhaps it was the magnetic bracelet, so I took it off. The computer was then fine. I never wore that bracelet to work again, and my second computer is still going strong after a couple of years.

There are always box tongue clasps, lobster clasps, larger C ring (senorita) clasps and toggle clasps available as well. QVC offers a choice, and many customers do like the magnetic clasps (me, for one).

The only kind of clasp I really don't like is the one Honora sometimes use, where you have to twist a barrel type thing and it's really difficult to grip it properly if you have any kind of lotion on your hands. But I wouldn't claim anyone "insists" on using it, it's just one of many options.
