Hey ~ The 18kt gold on BB's jewelry...Is that plated on sterling, or is it actual gold. I don't like the plated stuff because it eventually rubs off. I have my eye on a few pieces. TIA

They make a big deal of saying it's real gold, but it's a very thin layer that's attached to the silver base. It's thicker than plated, so it shouldn't wear off.

I have purchased more Bixby QVC pieces at T.J. Maxx than from QVC itself. You could take a look at TJM first before making the leap with the Q.

Have collected her pieces for over 10 years now. Last conclusions reached I knew about were that the flowers are solid 18K gold. I have not personally hacked one in half to see.

I would be interested to know where the info "it's a very thin layer that's attached to the silver base. It's thicker than plated, so it shouldn't wear off" came from. I guess its a possibility, hope not!

Here's some info from a discussion on BB Addicts board, Delphi, on May 16. Cannot verify accuracy of the info:

it constantly broke on me do to a lot of wear,,,

I thought I take the flower... of to put them on my Phoenix enhancer...

and yes ..as I took them of ..its like a cookie form...you could fill them with dowe (dough)??so yes

its a cap ....very thin ...but as they say its allowed as long as it holds its shape by it self....

2nd Reply: "You are right Floehle it is a very thin layer of gold covering the top of the flowers. The older and HE pieces have thicker gold. I laugh when they say solid 18k gold, yes it is but not much of it. "

I was surprised to read the exchange above. All these years I assumed they were solid. Maybe they were in the beginning, who knows!!

Not a concern to me. Solid 18k flowers would make the already astronomical high prices prohibitive.

I have cut down on buying her pieces in a big way. My last purchase was the newly resurrected saddle ring. I missed the original and was overjoyed to be able to buy it!

Also got the 25" Eastern Neckace and some connectors. Would love to get more but will not be buying much at the current prices.

You are absolutely right on all accounts and should have ignored the posts. Shame on me.

I have had jewelry resized and the flowers - and the other gold pieces - are sold. The flower had to be removed off a ring recently and the expert jeweler saw it is real gold and has to carefully put it back on. Some piece have more gold then others but they aren't QVC gold plated, etc.

All you have to do is look at it. You can see the seam between the gold layer and the silver base.

If you zoom in on J292721, you can see the gold leaf is on a silver base. Look at the seam. Look at the under gallery -- silver.

It's not rocket science.
