Hi everyone, I went to mall tried on all ceramic watches, im sorry to say the ones I liked were too heavy for me. I am used to my bulova and my citizen eco drive slim face watches I ended up buying two more silicone watches one in aqua color and another in coral. This colors go with alot of my spring summer outfits. They have a large face and yet light as a feather. So between the white one and these I am set for the summer They were inexpensive so if the straps get funky it would be ok, although I am very easy on my jewelry. Thank you all for your help. I will keep a lookout for something new for the winter.maybe a movado two tone!

Hello everyone....

Welcome to our watch collectors' thread for April 2014.

It may be April 1, but we're no fools! We are crazy, however. Crazy about watches, about finding good deals and about helping others find that special piece. Or maybe find out something they didn't know about a watch. Don't worry, we'll be learning right along with you! Of course, if you would like to come on in say hello..that's great, too!

Good morning, all! I just wanted to post my review of the new Renato beauties 626-838. I ordered both (no April fools!) since it was free shipping and I thought I would only keep one.... Well, I love both of them. This beauty is a little bigger than the GT creamy yellow MOP in the March thread that Phoenixbird posted about - 40 mm instead of 36 - and I really like both! The champagne has that same creamy yellow MOP dial as the GT beauty, and the python strap is a nice neutral, although it's a traditional buckle strap and just a bit stiff, but I suspect that will soften with wear. The green is really striking, and I don't have any green GT at all. I'm leaning towards keeping both, as it seems that there are fewer and fewer new women's Renatos. Decisions, decisions!

I hope that everyone has a great beginning to April. I am seeing the crocuses pop up everywhere and my daffodils are getting bigger. The birds are hitting my suet and birdseed like crazy; spring is definitely in the air!

Good morning gals. Thx for starting the new thread, Java. I thought you were playing an April fools joke on us at first! no way another new month. TGTBT, I love both those watches. I know the feeling, keep one...end up keeping both. You certainly have a couple of real beauties there. I'd love the green but,,but......I'll keep a watch to it. Maybe a good deal coming up!! Speaking of Spring, it is 20 degrees with flurries. So much for Spring here ....yet.

Before I cut the March thread off, I had mentioned this watch. Very similar in look to the Cartier Santos (plus another) and the Rotary Mecanique. The Cartier is out of reach for most, the Rotary was a limited Swiss Made mechanical piece which will probably never be reproduced. They did reproduce Chinese of it, because I own that as well in the brown and goldtone. This particular by Vicenze has a sterling case, Swiss Parts movement and 3ATM water resistant (which means just simply you won't have to worry about getting caught in the rain or washing your hands. It's standard water resistance.) This is a very attractive piece and it comes in three metal colors. They have also posted the video.

TGTBT: thanks for the review on your new Renato watches. Enjoy your new watches. I'm craving the green one. But now that you described the mop on the other dial, I want that one too! I appreciate your mentioning the size of the case. I hadn't realized they had changed that. I was so focused on the movement and crystal descriptions, that I just 'assumed' it was the same as the original 35mm Wildebeast case. I don't know if I'm happy it's bigger or if I wish it were the same.

Java: thanks for starting the new April thread. I have the larger size of the Rotary Mechanique from years ago. Very handsome watch. And I like the Q version too, but I don't like the choice of sterling silver. I have several sterling watches, from years ago, and I find them difficult to keep tarnish free as they age. In the beginning they are fine, but over time they tarnish and it's hard to remove unless you keep up with it regularly. I too prefer stainless steel for a watch case/bracelet.

Jena: the choice of IV and IIII are apparently artistic decisions by the watch designer. Both are used. I prefer IV, but some designers think the IIII provides either a more interesting look or better balance with some of the other numerals.

I hadn't carried over all of the previous discussion. Stainless steel is best and I had noted that. The plated versions shouldn't tarnish as readily, I would think. (I am drawing upon my experience with plated silver and that hasn't tarnished. I wear it for every day.) Nice watch and a nice departure from the typical tank homage.

I came back because I wanted to remind people that we have lots of watch shows this week. Not just Invicta which begins tonight 11pm EST, but there will also be some Versace shows. No sight of the Lady Zeus yet. There are a few models on the Bay. The TTV for this Wednesday will be a 40mm, Pro Diver with a 24mm Pro Diver in a 8 slot case. Quartz. Well, they know how to keep us away! LOL.

It really makes you scratch your head about the stainless steel vs. silver. Especially since they sell very inexpensive stainless steel jewelry. Have never had problems with plated silver tarnishing. Never.

I am glad you shared your experience with a sterling watch and I bet many women who frequent this forum and buy from the Q have been persuaded that sterling is the better choice for a watch.

That reminds me; have to get some batteries replaced. I have been wearing my automatics in the meantime.

Hi TGTBT

I am so lazy that I didn't use photobucket to post those pictures. When you have your pictures uploaded into photobucket, you will see a series of links laid out to the right. You will see Links to Share This Photo.

Look for IMG.

Then use copy and paste.

After you copy, you should see it say "copied."

Then bring it back over here and paste the IMG code like this:

That didn't work here in this forum. And it should have in most forums. So edit, your remarks. Look for the little chain. You will have to use t the direct link from photobucket and copy and paste that and bring it over. It should be in the same are area as the IMG code.

JavaQueen...That watch reminds me of my all time favorite watch that I used to wear daily. It was the brown/gold version. Unfortunately, the leather band became very thin and I lost it. That was MANY years ago and I have periodically searched for another. It was a Cartier LeMust and was made for only a few years. Like an old shoe and so many memories, I would so like to be able to find one in great condition, those I locate are not worth the investment. Your post of the Vincenze reminded me of that watch, thanks for the memories!

Sadly, that's what happens: we lose something that is very dear to us and then they stop making them.

Rotary is a company which began in Switzerland and now is based in the U.K. At one time, they produce Swiss timepieces, but not now. During the 1940s they created the Mecanique, 30mm square case design with elegant Roman numerals. They re-released in 2007-2008 as a limited edition. It then became the women's version. The men's was made as a 38mm. They released in slivertone and goldtone brown. I think only 400 pieces were made. Rotary then released a much less expensive version with a CL movement.

jena, thanks to Java, I was finally able to get the pictures up. I didn't think I would like the champagne as much as I do. Tomorrow, I plan to "test drive" the green, and will try to take some more pictures of that one, and post tomorrow evening. I wish that Shop would actually present it so that we could look at a video presentation!

I think it's tempting because the color and strap make it a bit more unusual. I usually don't like watches bigger than 36 mm, but this one was pretty comfortable to wear. And, I only remember a green sunburst that was silver tone, not any GT ones.

I am a bit concerned about the band, since it isn't interchangeable, but I'll keep an eye on it. That is a sad story, phoenixbrd. I hope that you are able to find it again some day, at a great price, of course

Well, I had typed more regarding phoenixbird's story and that she might want a Mecanqiue as a substitute. They're out there somewhere and for the fraction of the Cartier.(Not the same thing, I know) You know these posts go, I then tried to post a pic and lost it all. This is a stock picture of the Mecanique

JavaQueen...thanks for your input. The Mecanique has a similar look. The problem is that the Cartier just pleased me in so many ways. The deployment clasp with a buckle that came to a heart-shaped point, the blue sapphire. the cream colored case with the sapphire crystal, the richness of the brown/gold, the weight of it....it just felt good as well as pleasing me aesthetically. I'm such a die hard...and need to learn to let go. Thanks though for your efforts and it is always fun to learn about other watches. I love those with a history.

Thanks, TGTBT, for your comment. I had thought about the green Renato that you purchased...just love the color! Enjoy your new watches!
