As long as the byzantine is solid gold it should hold up very well. The problem comes in when it is hollow or if it is silver with gold overlay. The threading on the byzantine is not strong in these cases and they come apart. Then you have sharp pieces sticking out.

I am interested in fresh from the fair pieces J291761 and J291763. But I know nothing about the byzantine style. What are your thoughts?

I love Byzantines, and think that they look very elegant. I love the smart clasp on the bracelet. It's very easy to use. Byzantines are very intricate, and I think that it's not something that I would wear with anything else, otherwise it can look busy.

I have many byzantine pieces -- they are durable and elegant, but also can look chunky and bold too. They can have a more domed presentation or flat -- pay attention to the product description because the chunkier and more domed they are, the tighter the fit.

The bracelet you noted is a pretty decent weight given so many of the flimsy pieces we've seen lately. I don't know how well 14k plated metals hold up in this intricate weave; I only own sterling or 14k white ones ... maybe another poster can speak to that aspect.

I have five byzantine pieces. It's a very intricate woven design. I have a heavy bold sterling silver byzantine bracelet and matching ring I purchased years ago from a local jeweler. I also have an 18k gold bracelet, ring and earrings I purchased from QVC at least twenty years ago. I love and treasure these pieces. I love to wear them. They are quite special.

Byzantine is my favorite of all links. I have a few bracelets and just ordered one from the gold show. It's on advanced order. IMO, it's very classy and elegant.

I love the pieces you picked out. Based on the weight they seem like they will hold up very well. As others pointed out, if the links are hollow or too light weight they can easily break. Also, some lower end byzantine bracelets are poorly made and aren't flexible enough and they can break.

I have byzantine bracelets in 14K and in sterling and I've never had a problem with them. But I wouldn't buy any plated sterling because it would be difficult to clean if it tarnished. My advice on a sterling byzantine is to wipe it down with a clean cloth every time you take it off ( it takes just a second) and store it in a tarnish resistant box or a plastic bag with tarnish resistant paper inside.

Enjoy your new jewelry.
