Anyone Interested in the New Bixby Watch

I love it...however, I wonder if it looks too funky for the price??? It is on waitlist right now.

Any Bixby lovers out there?

I never for a moment considered buying it but think it's lovely and if I had that kind of money to spend on a novelty piece that would rarely get worn, I'd certainly consider it. I also loved the garden bracelet, but again it was quite costly. Still, I could better justify her prices for real gemstones and gold accents than I could justify others prices for gold clad and fake diamonds... I like Bixby's work, but can't say I'll be disappointed should she move a bit further away from the somewhat esoteric subjects upon which she's been focused for some time and moves more toward her garden, which seems to be inspiring some beautiful pieces.

Thanks Stevieb, you came up with the word I was looking for "novelty". I have several of her older pieces three rings, necklace and cross that are fairly subdued but show her intricate work. (I still want that darn watch)

I think that it is beautiful, but it just isn't for me. It was tempting even though ... the bee is gorgeous.

love the creativity and I had been wishing she'd make a watch with her beautiful butterflies and flowers because I thought the skull watch was amazing but don't want to wear jewelry or watches with skulls. This design though is a bit too whimsical for the price and I don't like the idea of a charm hanging from it but kudos to Barbara for originality and beauty.

I have a few of her keys and like them. I think if you are a fan of her jewelry (the designs that define her) you will love it and maybe want to buy it.

It (like many of her pieces) are not for many/most people. That's what makes each designer so wonderful. Everyone likes different things. A good designer does a beautiful job of defining themselves.

I love the watch, because of the bee, mostly. If I could choose one piece it would be the bee ring. But, alas, neither piece is in my budget. I need easy pay for one piece, but I rarely see those on Bixby items. The ring is on waitlist in all sizes; I'm not surprised. It's a work of art as are most Bixby pieces. Oh well, saving money.

It has Bixby look but I prefer it when she keeps it rock and roll, this is a little sweet for me. Wouldn't mind having the skull watch at all. What have you gotten so far?

I am not a watch person, but if I were, I would have bought it. I like all that is going on with it. I would wear it with a conservative outfit with straight lines and a basic color and then put on the watch for the POP! of personality.

I bought the watch. It is kooky but I sometimes love to wear just one thing and this piece is perfect for that. It's my only purchase of this day.

Yes, of course BB uses "the real stuff". But her prices reflect that. Her designs are not very original. Kirk's Folly does very similar fantasy jewelry.

On the contrary, they are VERY original. A quick tour around her jewelry will show that. No one has the same "take" on skulls and the items she designs. I've not seen any other skulls but hers with a lotus on the forehead, nor have I seen an "Om" or "ganesh" or any of the more intricate designs done as she has.... and I'm SURE Kirk's Folly hasn't done those!!

I posted this on an almost identical thread....Watches are getting expensive. I saw the watch and loved it. Love the blue topaz and wear a lot of blue. (I have always wanted her skull watch.) A Kirk's Folly fashion watch? No comparison. Disposable watches.

On the other hand....Bixby's watches are

Real gemstones on the dial. Real mother of pearl for a dial. Water resistant. Use of 18k gold. $300 is a good price for that. A comparable "designer" watch with fake gems/crystals, no MOP will still run between $250-300 retail. I would be thinking that one would one precisely because it's different and not a cheap $50 knockoff of some designer. To whoever purchased the watch: hope you like it. Looking forward to your review.
