SHOPHQ Questions....

ShopHQ doesn't offer a community forum such as this in which to ask questions, so here goes for anyone who might know something that I'm curious about -

What happened to the guest host named Carmen who always helped with the jewelry shows? I'm wondering if because they changed their overnight hours format to reruns if that's why she's not been on...?

Which begs my second question, regarding their overnight change in format - anyone know why they did that? I can only guess it was related to a huge savings of host salaries...

ShopHQ has always shown taped hours at night; it's more obvious now that they've changed the title to ""Best of.""

I was going to ask ... I see Paul D. Gem Insider bringing in a lot of items that were once on QVC. I'm sure he has all the same contacts with manufacturers. Has anyone else noticed?

I haven't noticed Paul's items as being similar to what's sold on the Q, probably because jewelry shows seem so few and far between anymore. FYI for anyone who cares, his wife, Judy Crowell, is supposed to be starting a line of jewelry at HQ - I think sometime this month.

I used to watch ShopNBC in the middle of the night alot and I believe the only thing they might've showed pre-taped was their TTV - the rest was live. Seems like when they changed to HQ, they changed the overnight programming.

In general, I'm really put off with all three shopping channels and their programming. Seems like the things that I like to watch are so few and far between as to be non-existent. Maybe that's a good thing on my bank account, though... LOL

Carmen has been with Shop for years and years. She even had her own line of dolls at one time. She is not a regular host but a contract employee who only works special hours. I hope they resume her appearances as I like her very much. She has a lovely voice...you'll hear it on the automated ordering line. She's also one of the nicest TV shopping people.

I had not realized Carmen has not been on for awhile.

The pre-recorded they started recently I assumed there was not anyone ""newbie"" enough to work during the night. It seems they could take turns doing a night shift but maybe they save enough $$ to go without live programing.

Contrary to your thinking that ShopHQ has always been taped hours at night...sadly you're mistaken. I used to watch it live during the middle of the night while breat feeding my daughter.

I hope you're not disappointed that you've been proven wrong. :-)

Absolutely. Their programming has become dismal.

Shogirl, I have noticed this change in the past few months as well. I work out beginning at 4am and used to enjoy Carmela providing commentary on jewelry and stories about her kids. Those shows, often with Tami Lyn (sp) or Christine Kvanli definitely were live. Looks to me like a cost saving measure!

No, engineer, you're not missing much on HQ these days! Although... they just started a Gem Week and that's definitely my cup of tea.

Here's an example ... 131-497. I could swear this necklace was on QVC at one time.

I still think SNBC has used tapes before ... maybe it was those endless hours of watches, with Jim Skelton? I just remember hearing about taped presentations a few years ago.

ShopHQ has a FB page that they USED to let you post on and they had a presence there, if you had a problem they would contact you and address it. You could post the good the bad and your opinion. NOW you cannot start a post there .

I e-mailed shophq and asked about there ""best of hq shows'' they responded they are trying this so they can show more variety of items during regular time slots and not have to repeat presentations

I think it's cost-cutting. Why would anyone do that if they didn't have to? And you know, it's hard for smaller vendors. They were the ones who got their start. And now they have lost air time to bigger vendors. A much-loved host, Shawn Wilsie was given the boot. Now it may have been that he was paid well because he had been there a long time, but he was on mainly during the wee hours.

Way back in the days of Value Vision (which pre-dated ShopNBC which pre-dated HQ) Carmela was one of the regular hosts and was on during the day. She lost or changed that position when the station switched to ShopNBC. They always had the most beatiful 18k jewelry. I remember the merchandise and pricing to be far superior to QVC.

I have only ever ordered from them 3 times. Once was 7 years ago (around there), once was about 2 months ago and once was today.

I order 2 wigs (which is what I ordered 2 months ago and had to return them) from the same lady.
