I just ordered the silvertone and goldtone solitaire necklaces. In an apartment without my closet safe and workers have a pass key to come in any time, I have all my real jewelry in the a safety deposit box in the bank.

I don't wear my wedding set every day (just a diamond eternity wedding band) because I'm painting, cleaning and cooking. If I know I'm going somewhere I go to the bank and get what I need (usually on Fridays to wear on the weekend). No need for the "real stuff" during the week.

I do have the oval "Amy ring" and "Amy" eternity band in my drawer to wear if I don't get to the bank. It's almost identical to my wedding set and no one notices a difference.

When we had our home, I always felt it was sad to not wear my good jewelry and save it for only special occassions, but here I can't protect it from theft and although all pieces are insured, many have sentimental value and could never be replaced.

If you live in an apartment, how do you keep your real jewelry safe?

@Shanus --I don't have much real jewelry anymore--sold most of it when gold was a whopping $1200 an oz!!!!! In the 90's.I have a few gold chains left but nothing anyone would waste time on. I live in an apt and never thought about a break in---my front door is heavy steel with 2 locks on the inside and I live on the 2nd floor. I'd keep all your valued pieces right where they are if that makes you feel safer.

By not having very much! Don't see the point of keeping things in a safe deposit box. My wedding rings are never off my hand. I have a 14 carat hand made bracelet that's 50+ years old and is probably worth a lot and not very much else. I like my "costume" jewelry the best.

I live in a high rise building with a doorman and do not worry about any break ins.

Like you, I used to keep my really good pieces in our safe deposit box. Right now there are only 2-3 items there as I have sold one piece / year. At 80, our life style has changed over the years.

The few pieces I keep at home go into the bank box before we leave for FL for the Winter as I wear a minimum of jewelry in that hot weather.

Just this week I got the semi-annual postcard from the jeweler who brings in the same gold purchasing company each year.

Minor pieces I have been giving away over time to friends and family.

I still have a significant amount of cash from prior jewelry sales on hand for donation or to support someone in need.

Enjoy your sentimental pieces comfortably and in great health !

@wagirl No inside locks here. We use a "fob" to press againbst door to get in apt. and into elevator from 1st floor. All service people have a fob, too.

I still wear valuable jewelry. Most of it is 18K, couple of 21K and a few 14K. And my white jewelry is mostly platinum. The silver I have is mostly from QVC and is ultrafine. I have a few Sterling Silver. No. I've never sold any of my gold and platinum. Even if it goes up to $5,000.00 (which I have predicted and most certainly will) A few I keep at the bank. But the rest is at home. I've never had steel jewelry, but it will never tarnish!
